That was the statement of Mr. Nguyen Trong Nghia - Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission - at the National Conference to Summarize 50 years of Vietnamese literature and art after the country's reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) held on the morning of April 25 in Hanoi.
The conference was solemnly organized by the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission in coordination with the Central Party Office, the National Assembly Office, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations at Dien Hong Hall, National Assembly House with the participation of about 500 artists, researchers, and managers.

50 years of literature and art: Proud achievements
At the conference, the presentations focused on affirming the proud achievements and results of Vietnamese literature and art 50 years after the country's reunification; proposing and recommending policies and guidelines for the development of the country's literature and art in the new period.
From there, continue to raise awareness and responsibility of Party committees, authorities, localities and units about the position, role and importance of literature and art; encourage and motivate artists to continue to promote their talent, intelligence, solidarity and enthusiasm to create many valuable works.
Prof. Dr. Dinh Xuan Dung - former Vice President of the Central Council for Theory and Criticism of Literature and Art, discussed the Party and State's policies on literature and art over the past 50 years.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong - Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of Ho Chi Minh City - discussed the literature and art of Ho Chi Minh City in half a century of development.
Colonel Nguyen The Manh discussed the achievements of literature and art in the army. Ms. Ngo Phuong Lan - former Director of the Cinema Department, President of the Vietnam Cinema Promotion and Development Association - contributed her opinion on the development of cultural industry from the case of cinema.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Thieu - Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association - discussed the achievements of literature and art since 1975 thanks to changes in the Party and State's art policies.
Mr. Nguyen Dac Vinh contributed ideas on perfecting institutions and policies on literature and arts after 50 years of national reunification...

Literature and art create soft power
Speaking at the conference, Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia affirmed that the Great Victory in the spring of 1975 was one of the brilliant milestones in the history of building and defending the country of our people.
Literature, art and artists have played a great role and contributed to that great victory.
During the past 50 years, under the leadership of the Party, Vietnamese literature and art have made strong developments, achieved important achievements, developed in the right direction, and continued to make important contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the country, especially during the years of our renovation.
And it is a voice of gratitude, praising the patriotic and revolutionary traditions of our army and people; at the same time, it is a voice of national harmony, contributing to healing and soothing the pain and loss of war; creating a new spirit and new strength of the nation.
The themes of patriotism, revolutionary war and armed forces continue to be explored in new depths. Literature and art have truly made an important contribution to creating the soft power of Vietnamese culture in the process of national renewal and increasingly deep integration with the world.
And over the past 50 years, the country's artists have always been a reliable force of the Party and the people, and are still soldiers on the ideological front.

Outdated and inappropriate policies and regimes must be resolutely eliminated.
However, the country's literature and arts have not developed commensurate with their potential and are facing fierce challenges.
According to Mr. Nghia, literary and artistic life is posing us very thoughtful questions.
For example: Are there signs of avoiding big, fundamental issues in literary and artistic works? Is there a tendency to simply describe and express the ego as a personal need?
Is there a lack of enthusiasm, a lack of involvement and immersion in the rich realities of life of the country and its people?...
The Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission outlined a number of tasks and solutions to continue promoting the role of literature and art.
First, it is necessary to focus on improving the Party's leadership capacity, associated with strong innovation in thinking and appropriate and effective leadership methods to create directions and space for the development of literature and art.
In particular, it is necessary to focus on the specificity of literature and art; respect and ensure the freedom of creation, arouse and strongly promote the desire to contribute and the creative capacity of artists.
It is necessary to strengthen the institutionalization of the Party's policies, viewpoints, tasks and solutions on literature and art. Review, build and continue to perfect the missing legal system in the fields of literature and art.
Outdated, inadequate, and inappropriate regulations, regimes, and policies must be resolutely eliminated.
Our country is entering a new era, Mr. Nghia hopes that more than ever, the Vietnamese artists need to continue to "stand shoulder to shoulder", "unite and join forces", together carry out the noble mission and heavy but glorious responsibility to the Fatherland and the people.
