On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) (September 15, 1945 - September 15, 2025), Chairman of Yonhap News Agency (South Korea) Hwang Dae Il shared with VNA reporters in Seoul his impressions of VNA, as well as the cooperative relationship between the two news agencies.
According to Mr. Hwang Dae Il, with a network of over 1,000 reporters nationwide and 30 representative offices abroad, VNA has long affirmed its position as Vietnam's leading news agency in terms of scale and influence.
VNA is considered a reliable source for quickly publishing official information from the Party, State, and Government , while also promptly conveying the country's situation to the public both domestically and internationally.
He assessed that VNA's diverse publications have contributed to providing a quick and accurate source of information for global readers, with the daily volume of news, photos, graphics, and multimedia products becoming an important reference source for many international news agencies, including Yonhap.
Yonhap's correspondent based in Hanoi also frequently refers to and quotes news from VNA.

Referring to the cooperation process, Mr. Hwang Dae Il said that Yonhap and VNA have been accompanying the strong development of bilateral relations between Vietnam and South Korea since 1992.
The increasingly close cooperation is demonstrated through the exchange of news, photos, videos , graphics, as well as annual personnel exchange activities at various levels.
Among the 97 news agencies from 82 countries that cooperate with Yonhap, VNA is considered one of the most committed partners.
Notably, in 2022, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations, the two agencies jointly organized a photojournalism exhibition in Seoul and Hanoi.
Recently, on August 12th, during the state visit of the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam, to South Korea, the two sides signed an agreement to extend cooperation, adding a clause on Yonhap's Vietnamese-language news service – marking a new step forward in the strategic relationship between the two national news agencies.
The Yonhap chairman also praised VNA as one of the leading news agencies in the Asia-Pacific region in the field of digital transformation and innovation, especially in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

At the Council of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) meeting in Kuala Lumpur in February 2025, the VNA representative presented detailed achievements in applying digital technology to the entire process of news production, editing, and distribution, including CMS systems, user data analysis, machine translation, fact-checking, and keyword suggestions.
These efforts helped VNA improve the quality of its content, put readers at the center, and made a strong impression on Yonhap's leadership.
Regarding VNA's international standing, Mr. Hwang Dae Il affirmed that the Vietnamese national news agency has served as a permanent member of the OANA Council for many years, clearly demonstrating its responsibility and pioneering role in joint activities.
VNA successfully hosted the OANA Council meeting in Hanoi in 2019 and regularly participates in presenting papers at these meetings.
The prestigious awards that VNA has consistently received, including the OANA Award 2017-2018 and First Prize at the “OANA Award 2024”, are considered evidence of VNA's growing prestige and position in the international and regional journalistic community.
