On April 9, at a press conference announcing the Asian Development Outlook (ADO) Report for April 2025, ADB forecast that Vietnam's GDP will grow by 6.6% in 2025 and 6.5% in 2026.
Vietnam’s growth is significantly higher than the average for developing economies in Asia and the Pacific, which the ADB report forecasts will grow 4.9% this year, down slightly from 5% last year. For 2026, the forecast is just 4.7%.
The services sector is forecast to grow by 7.2% in 2025, driven by increased domestic and international tourism and technology industries, but this forecast was calculated by ADB experts before the US announced the tariffs.

Assessing external risks to Vietnam’s economy, Mr. Nguyen Ba Hung, Chief Economist of ADB, said that the changing global economic environment, significantly affected by recent US tariff announcements and geopolitical tensions, poses major challenges to economies that rely on export-led growth. However, demand for agricultural commodities and free trade agreements will help maintain exports.
ADB Country Director for Vietnam Shantanu Chakraborty said that strong trade growth, a positive recovery in export manufacturing, and high foreign direct investment have boosted Vietnam's economic growth in 2024. However, the recent announcement of US tariffs, along with ongoing global uncertainties, could pose significant challenges to Vietnam's growth this year.
In that context, according to the ADB Director in Vietnam, economic growth can be higher and more sustainable if the Vietnamese Government continues to implement comprehensive institutional reform efforts in the past time quickly and effectively.
ADB leaders emphasized that these reforms will stimulate domestic demand, increase the efficiency of State management in the short term, thereby promoting the development of the private sector in the medium and long term.
