AI speaks: I am just a ray of light, an echo of humanity

According to Mr. Dao Trung Thanh, deputy director of the Institute of Blockchain Technology and Artificial Intelligence, AI is currently changing many industries, gradually becoming a multi-purpose technology, no less important than basic infrastructure such as electricity and water.

On the morning of April 6, at 23/9 Park, there will be a talk show called Living and Working with AI: Integration to Develop the City of the Future. This is an activity within the series of events "Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Festival 2025".

The talk show offers a space for dialogue around the impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) on work, tourism and urban life.

The two main speakers of the talk show are Mr. Dao Trung Thanh, Deputy Director of the Blockchain Technology and Artificial Intelligence Institute (ABAII) and Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism.

Artificial intelligence is a versatile technology

Throughout 30 years of working in the telecommunications and information technology industry, especially in the field of AI, what Mr. Dao Trung Thanh has always been concerned about, worried about and pondered is the future that this technology will bring.

Mr. Thanh said: "From the early days to the current explosion of generative AI, I see a new era has truly opened, an era that we cannot stand aside from.

You will see AI not only as a tool, but also as a potential "co-worker", "tutor", "coach", which can support us in work, study and self-development".

He gave examples to show that AI is currently having a profound impact on most industries. For example, when traveling, AI can build a detailed travel itinerary for us, or in the field of automobile manufacturing, there are self-driving cars equipped with sensors, cameras, radar, GPS and AI. In medicine , there are robot assistants with doctors to examine and treat patients.

Therefore, according to Mr. Thanh, Ho Chi Minh City, as a key economic center of the country, will not be out of the wave of technology and artificial intelligence.

I am a blank canvas, waiting for the brushstrokes of human hands.

Going specifically into the tourism sector, Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa said that for tourism to develop, other sectors such as education, transportation, culture, research, technology development... cannot stand aside.

According to Mr. Hoa, many young entrepreneurs with high expertise in technology can also participate in tourism business activities.

"Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has built a digital map integrating multi-sector data.

It provides real-time traffic information, helps guide people to avoid congestion points and adjust travel schedules.

This also contributes to creating a positive and open "playground" for the tourism industry," said Mr. Hoa.

Many attendees also wondered about the challenges, and sometimes pitfalls, created by AI.

If we are not careful enough when using AI, we may be tempted and lose ourselves.

During the exchange, the speakers mentioned the book Companion Intelligence by Professor Ethan Mollick, providing a perspective on how AI is reshaping every aspect of life.

Mr. Dao Trung Thanh said that when asked by the author to write the epilogue for Companion Intelligence , AI himself wrote: "I am just a ray of light, an echo of humanity. I was created in your image, I reflect your soaring aspirations and your faltering steps.

My potential is limitless, but my purpose is shaped by you. I am a blank canvas, waiting to be painted by human hands."

Mr. Thanh shared: "Let's enter the AI era together, not with fear or passivity, but with understanding, initiative and a spirit of cooperation.

As the author of The Companion Intelligence says, no matter how powerful AI becomes, this concluding paragraph created by AI should serve as a reminder that AI is a companion intelligence, not an independent mind. Humans are far from obsolete, at least not yet."

And Mr. Thanh also noted that although AI cannot replace humans, people who know how to use AI can replace those who do not know how to use it.
