Apple Intelligence now understands Vietnamese

Users can experience Apple Intelligence in Vietnamese on iOS 26.1, which was just released early morning on November 4.

Apple has just released iOS 26.1 and iPadOS 26.1 to the public. In addition to new features and bug fixes, this version adds 8 languages ​​to Apple Intelligence, including Vietnamese.

To upgrade to iOS 26.1, go to Settings > Software Update . After the update is complete, select Set up Apple Intelligence in the welcome screen to let the system load the necessary models. Users can also activate Vietnamese Siri, which Apple added earlier this year.

Apple Intelligence supports iPhone 15 Pro and later, iPad mini A17 Pro, iPad and Mac with M1 chip and later, Apple Vision Pro, and certain Apple Watch models.

Besides Vietnamese, other languages ​​supported by Apple Intelligence on iOS 26.1 include Chinese (Traditional), Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swedish and Turkish.

Apple emphasizes the combination of on-device and cloud-based models to ensure privacy. In some tools, users can call ChatGPT to process content.

“Apple Intelligence marks a breakthrough in privacy in AI. Notably, it is on-device processing, meaning many models that support Apple Intelligence run entirely on-device,” Apple’s announcement emphasized.

In addition to the features that have appeared before, Apple Intelligence on iOS 26 adds a number of new tools. The first is Live Translation, which can automatically translate messages or calls between many languages. According to Apple, this feature currently only supports Vietnamese when texting.

iOS 26 also upgrades Visual Intelligence, which can be activated by pressing the Action button or Camera Control. This feature supports image and text analysis on the screen, allowing ChatGPT to ask questions about the content being viewed.

With the Image Playground app, users can request to create images from text and available data. Similarly, the device allows to create emojis for messaging by combining available icons, creating new icons based on Animoji and text descriptions.

The Notes app lets you create images from notes with the Magic Wand feature. Additionally, the Mail app can automatically filter important emails and suggest responses based on context.

The plan to support Vietnamese for Apple Intelligence was announced last year. At that time, Apple only noted the release date “starting from April”. However, it took 7 months for this toolkit to support Vietnamese.

Despite supporting Apple Intelligence and Vietnamese, Siri on iOS 26.1 is still based on the old platform, only integrating some basic features and accessing ChatGPT. Responding to CNBC , CEO Tim Cook promised that a new, AI-based and more personalized version of Siri will be released in 2026.

In addition to adding languages ​​to Apple Intelligence, iOS 26.1 tweaks a number of features such as expanding the Liquid Glass effect in the calling app, swiping to switch music in Apple Music, and a few other minor changes.

Notably, users can switch between a transparent effect (similar to the current Liquid Glass) or blur some interface elements for easier viewing. The new iOS also allows users to disable the lock screen swipe gesture to open the camera, while the Apple TV+ service is renamed Apple TV.
