According to BGR , not only iPhone, now it's Apple's turn to choose AirPods to be manufactured in India, marking a new step in the Cupertino giant's supply chain diversification strategy.
Apple chooses India as the place to produce AirPods
India: Apple's new 'promised land'?
Bloomberg reported that Apple has begun trial production of AirPods at a factory near Hyderabad, India. The factory is expected to be fully operational by the first quarter of 2025, mass-producing AirPods wireless headphones for Apple.
This is the second largest Apple product to be manufactured in India, after the iPhone. The move shows that Apple is increasingly prioritizing India as an important manufacturing base, besides China.
The shift of production away from China is said to be due to trade tensions between the US and China, as well as the impact of the C OVID -19 pandemic. Apple is trying to reduce its dependence on China, while looking for new, more stable supply sources.
Previously, The Information also reported that Apple had chosen India as the place to produce the standard iPhone 17. This shows that Apple is increasingly confident in India's manufacturing capacity. However, China still plays an important role in Apple's supply chain, as the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Air models are rumored to still be produced in this country of billions of people.
However, if India proves its manufacturing capabilities, Apple may continue to expand its production scale there in the future.
It is not yet clear which AirPods models Apple will manufacture in India. Will it be just the AirPods 4 or will it include existing and future models? The answer will be revealed soon.
