On June 13, Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia Pham Hung Tam received Mr. Layton Pike, co-founder of the Australia-Vietnam Policy Institute (AVPI) and Head of International Cooperation at RMIT University, at the Embassy.
According to a VNA correspondent in Australia, at the reception, Mr. Layton Pike welcomed Australia and Vietnam for upgrading their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March this year during the official visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to Australia.
He emphasized that the official opening of the AVPI Institute at RMIT University during the visit by both sides contributed significantly to promoting cooperation, exchange and enhancing understanding between the two countries.
Mr. Layton Pike also shared about the process of expanding over 30 AVPI networks in Australia, in which the Institute's partners are interested in supporting the Australia-Vietnam relationship. Thereby, contributing to facilitating the promotion of bilateral cooperation areas; affirming that the Institute will soon organize a workshop in the fourth quarter of this year and looking forward to Vietnam's participation to discuss potential cooperation opportunities between the two countries.
For his part, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam expressed his delight at the expansion and development of AVPI and highly appreciated the establishment of the Advisory Council along with the Institute's planned activities this year.
The Ambassador expects the Institute to make more important policy contributions to promote key areas of cooperation identified in the Joint Statement upgrading bilateral relations during Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Australia.
Ambassador Pham Hung Tam also emphasized the good and trustworthy cooperation foundation between the two countries, and suggested that AVPI soon implement more new initiatives and further expand its partner network, facilitating the promotion of Vietnam-Australia relations.
On this occasion, Ambassador Pham Hung Tam and Mr. Layton Pike also discussed the activities of the Vietnamese community in Australia and the role of AVPI in raising awareness and understanding between the two sides./.
