Bac Ninh: Focus on fixing problems at the energy dissipation tank of Van Son pumping station

BAC NINH - On August 8, Mr. Nguyen Tien Tung, Director of the Urban Drainage Pumping Center, said that the Center is coordinating with relevant units to focus human resources and equipment to fix the incident that occurred at the energy dissipation tank of the Van Son pumping station's discharge culvert, Tan Tien ward.

Previously, during the process of pumping to prevent flooding in the urban area, officers and employees of the pumping station inspected and discovered that the energy dissipation tank area of ​​the discharge culvert had a subsidence incident.

Upon receiving the information, the Department of Agriculture and Environment sent staff to the scene to directly inspect the entire project. Thereby, it was discovered that the energy dissipation tank of the river discharge culvert had collapsed; the joint between the culvert body and the water slope had shifted position, widening by about 5-8 cm.

Authorities fix the problem.

Van Son Pumping Station is responsible for pumping out water for most of Bac Giang Ward, Tan Tien Ward and urban infrastructure works. In response to the dangerous developments of the incident and to ensure that the operation of the pumping station to prevent flooding is not interrupted, the Urban Drainage Pumping Center presided over and coordinated with the People's Committee of Tan Tien Ward to mobilize forces and many means and materials to urgently handle the incident in the first hour.

In the immediate future, the forces have quickly deployed many solutions such as: Pouring small-grain concrete into the subsidence gap between the culvert body and the energy-dissipating slope, pouring asphalt to cover the cracks; covering the entire subsidence gap with corrugated iron and expansion bolts, and the joint between the head wall and the wing wall to ensure that water does not flow into the expanded subsidence gap when pumping. At the same time, handling the eroded slope by removing the cracked concrete, filling the eroded slope with sandbags on both sides; arranging stone gabions to prevent erosion, and stabilizing the entire energy-dissipating basin on the river side.

To thoroughly handle the above incident, the Urban Drainage Pumping Center organized an inspection of the entire current status of the Van Son pumping station, documents related to the design, proactively coordinated with agencies and functional units to evaluate and propose to the province a solution to ensure the safety of the project, culverts through the dike and the dike in the area.
