NDO - More than 100m of Da Nang coastline (in My Khe beach, Phuoc My ward, Ngu Hanh Son district, Da Nang city) has been eroded by waves, causing serious landslides. Currently, the Management Board of Son Tra peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches has inspected the current situation, put up warning lines and proposed that the city government soon have timely solutions.
According to a reporter's report on December 31, many locations on Da Nang beach along Vo Nguyen Giap Street were seriously eroded by seawater.
According to initial estimates, more than 100m of coastline was eroded by waves, deeply eating away at My Khe beach (Phuoc My ward, Son Tra district) - a place once voted as one of the "most attractive beaches on the planet".
Wave erosion caused landslides and collapsed the coastal embankment. This area has many hotels and attracts a lot of tourists, wave erosion makes the beach messy. In recent days, due to the influence of strong northeast monsoon (night of December 27 and day of December 28), high waves caused landslides along the Hoang Sa - Vo Nguyen Giap - Truong Sa coastline.
Mr. Phan Minh Hai, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang Tourist Beaches, said that My Khe beach area was encroached by waves for more than 100m, 15-20m deep into the shore. There are 3 businesses in this area that are affected. Currently, we have organized to support and relocate coconut trees at risk of falling to other locations to avoid damage. At the same time, we have notified coastal service business groups to monitor the erosion situation and have a plan to dismantle assets when there is a high risk of beach erosion.
The Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches has reported on the situation of landslides at the beach, proposed the Da Nang Department of Tourism to report, and recommended the Da Nang People's Committee to direct relevant agencies to assess climate change, extreme weather and solutions to prevent landslides on Da Nang's coastline.

On the morning of December 31, Ms. Dang Thi Lien, the owner of a business kiosk in this area, started cleaning up the property that had been destroyed by the waves. Ms. Lien said: The monsoon weather caused the waves to be very large, and in just one night, the waves eroded and swept away many items in the shop. (Photo: ANH DAO) |

In the above-mentioned landslide areas, seawater erodes deep into the beach, forming whirlpools that tend to move over time. The landslides cause coconut trees to fall, damage the property of coastal service businesses, etc., and pose a risk of landslides and damage to the infrastructure of neighboring areas.
