Every 50m arrange 1 rescuer

At 7am, the sun was already high in the sky, the beachgoers had already left the beach, and at this time the coastal rescue team of the Vung Tau City Tourist Management and Support Center was still busy with their work. Some walked along the beach observing the mouth of the whirlpool, some leveled and filled in the concave sand areas, some moved the markers to encircle the mouth of the whirlpool and replaced the faded flags…

Mr. Luong Duc Dong, Deputy Director of the Center for Management and Support of Tourists in Vung Tau City, said that the April 30 and May 1 holidays are long holidays, in addition, the project to renovate Thuy Van Street has completed many items, from Phan Chu Trinh to Le Hong Phong, the surrounding walls have been removed to open up the view from the shore to the sea. With the most concentrated system of hotels and tourist service facilities in the city, it is predicted that during the April 30 and May 1 holidays, Bai Sau will attract tourists to swim and relax. Therefore, organizing and managing the beach to serve the needs of swimming and entertainment for people and tourists safely is a task that must be focused on and implemented well to contribute to the development of local tourism.

The Tourist Management and Support Center has 30 lifeguards managing 1,200m from the foot of Nghinh Phong slope to Green Hotel. From Green Hotel to the border of Paradise Tourist Area, Tam Hoang Thien Company Limited (the unit that won the bid to provide essential services for swimming and beach rescue during the renovation of Thuy Van Street) has 40 lifeguards.

“The lifeguards will be on duty 100% of the time during holidays and weekends when there are many visitors. Every 50m of the beach, there will be a lifeguard equipped with a whistle, loudspeaker, and lifebuoy. Working hours will also be earlier, starting at 5:30 a.m. and ending when there are no more swimmers,” Mr. Luong Duc Dong added about the plan to assign lifeguards to stay at sea to keep tourists safe.

Expand your sea viewing space

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, Vice Chairman of Vung Tau City People's Committee, with the view of not restricting swimming at Bai Sau, in addition to focusing on safety in swimming and environmental sanitation, the city has directed cooperatives that are doing business in marine services, Tam Hoang Thien Company Limited to provide minimum services for guests to relax and watch the sea such as deck chairs, umbrellas, public toilets, lifeguards on duty, and at the same time closely monitor the situation. If the number of visitors increases, they will flexibly add more toilets for visitors to use conveniently.

In addition, Vung Tau City also arranges rescue, organizes parking lots, and cleans beaches such as: Vong Nguyet Beach, Pineapple Beach, Front Beach, Dau Beach, and Chi Linh area, opening up space to watch the sea and enjoy the beautiful seascape for tourists and residents to enjoy safely.

From April onwards, Vung Tau beach is affected by the southwest monsoon. In Bai Sau, the wind direction blows from the mainland, the whirlpool formed during the north wind season (from December to March) will gradually shrink but continue to shift position according to the flow, becoming a "trap" for beachgoers. In addition, Bai Sau also has a strong current flowing from the shore, called the Rip current. The speed of the Rip current is extremely fast, about 2m/s, so in a split second, beachgoers will be swept away from the shore if they fall into the Rip current. In addition, storms also occur suddenly in the late afternoon, causing buoys to drift and capsize while swimming. Therefore, to have a fun and safe trip, tourists need to raise their awareness, not swim near places with black flags, spontaneous beaches, deserted areas, follow the warnings of rescue forces, equip themselves with knowledge to recognize, escape from whirlpools and raise their hands to signal for timely detection and rescue if they accidentally fall into a whirlpool.

Mr. Luong Duc Dong added that all the above beaches are equipped with buoy systems to mark safe swimming areas. For the beaches: Vong Nguyet, Bai Dua, Bai Dau... there are fewer people swimming, so every afternoon there will be 1 lifeguard on duty. The center will coordinate with the People's Committees of wards: 1, 2, 8, 10, Thang Tam to ensure security and order, and handle according to regulations cases of property theft, eating and drinking in parks, embankments, bringing food to the beach, and street vendors soliciting tourists.

“In case of a bad situation, a swimming accident, or need to find a lost person, tourists should contact the nearest lifeguard for timely support through zalo groups connecting all forces tasked with ensuring beach security and order, cooperatives, and businesses providing marine services,” said Mr. Luong Duc Dong.
