On May 3, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the complete liberation of the South and national reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), the network of Vietnamese friends in New York and neighboring areas coordinated with the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations to solemnly organize the event "Celebrating 50 years of Peace and Social Progress in Vietnam".
The ceremony brought together a large number of delegates from left-wing organizations, labor unions, organizations representing the interests of Southeast Asian Americans, the Vietnamese American community, and many individuals who participated in the anti-war movement, standing side by side with Vietnam during the difficult years during and after the war.
In particular, the event was attended and delivered speeches by Ambassadors and Heads of Permanent Delegations of Cuba, Nicaragua and Vietnam to the United Nations.

In an intimate atmosphere filled with friendship and international solidarity, the delegates reviewed the historical significance of April 30, 1975 - a major turning point marking the complete victory of the Vietnamese people in the cause of national liberation and reunification, and at the same time a common victory of progressive humanity for justice, peace and the right to self-determination of nations.
Emotionally reviewing the anti-war and pro-Vietnam movements and activities that spread throughout the United States and many places around the world , delegates emphasized the courage and resilience of organizations and individuals who raised their voices to demand that the government end the unjust war in Vietnam, lift the siege and embargo, and move toward normalizing relations between the two countries.
Many organizations and individuals have continued to accompany and make practical contributions to overcoming the consequences of war, implementing humanitarian programs and strengthening people-to-people relations between the two countries.

Cuban Ambassador Ernesto Guzmán and Nicaraguan Ambassador Jaime Castillo expressed their deep admiration for the indomitable spirit and perseverance of the Vietnamese people in the resistance war against the US and in the process of building and developing the country after the war.
The Ambassadors emphasized that Vietnam's victory is a strong source of inspiration for movements fighting against imperialism and oppression around the world, and affirmed the faithful and consistent solidarity of the Cuban and Nicaraguan people for the Vietnamese people.

In his keynote speech at the ceremony, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, affirmed that April 30, 1975 was a major historical milestone, opening a new chapter of peace, unity, independence and development for the Vietnamese people, while laying the foundation for the Vietnam-US relationship to transform from confrontation to reconciliation, to normalization and becoming a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership today.
Reviewing the great achievements Vietnam has made in all aspects after 50 years of unification, nearly 40 years of Doi Moi and 30 years of normalizing relations with the United States, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang emphasized that the victory in the resistance war against imperialism and the achievements Vietnam has achieved so far are the crystallization of the steadfast patriotism, the indomitable will and the great sacrifices of the Vietnamese army and people, along with the valuable support from socialist countries, international friends and the global progressive movement, including the American people.
On this occasion, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang respectfully quoted General Secretary To Lam 's speech on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the complete Liberation of the South and national reunification, on behalf of the Party, State and people of Vietnam, expressing deep gratitude for "the great, valuable, righteous, loyal and steadfast support and assistance of international brothers, comrades and friends, progressive forces and peace-loving people around the world for the cause of national liberation and national reunification of the Vietnamese people".

At the ceremony, the Organizing Committee officially launched the website https://vietnam50.us to preserve and disseminate valuable articles, images and documents reflecting Vietnam's 50-year journey of construction, development and social progress.
