The team collecting martyrs' remains actively participated in the search process.
In Thanh Phu district, in Cay Me area, Giang Ha hamlet, An Dien commune, the collection team and local militia soldiers found 1 set of human remains with unknown address and identity; in Doi Duoc temporary cemetery area, Thanh Thoi B hamlet, Thanh Hai commune, Thanh Phu district, the collection team found 5 sets of human remains.
The collection team then collected 9 sets of remains at the temporary cemetery of Mieu Quang Long, Tan Thi Dinh hamlet, Tan Hao commune, Gong Trom district. Currently, the collection team is collecting at the temporary cemetery of Hoa Loi hamlet, Luong Hoa commune, Giong Trom district.
According to Mr. Duong Van Ben, a veteran in Tan Hao Commune, Giong Trom District, the cemetery was established around 1967 with an area of about 1,000m2 . The martyrs buried here are mainly soldiers who died in combat, the number (unknown), the burial method of the martyrs is not in a straight line; the time of collection is around 1982; The number of martyrs is about 70. In 2006, when implementing the optical cable project of VNPT Telecommunications, digging a pipe across the temporary cemetery, 2 martyrs were discovered and reported to the local leaders to organize the collection at the Martyrs' Cemetery of Luong Quoi Commune.
Therefore, witnesses believe that there is a possibility that the remains of the martyrs are still there, so they recommend that the higher authorities organize an excavation. Mr. Ben added: The search for the remains of the martyrs will partly alleviate the incomplete pain of the martyrs' relatives - those who have waited for decades just to be able to light incense and place a stele on the graves of their loved ones who are still there. The collection of remains of the martyrs is not simply a policy activity, but a journey to find the roots, to return the names of those who have fallen for the Fatherland.
Lieutenant Colonel Phan Van Bot, Head of the Policy Department, Political Department of the Provincial Military Command, the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee 515, said: "During the search process, we encountered many difficulties such as historical witnesses who directly managed the cemetery at that time no longer exist, Or there are only a few related witnesses left, but they are too old to remember the burial location of the martyrs. The records and grave maps are no longer kept, so it is no longer possible to determine the time of the cemetery's formation, the time of the collection, the number of people, and the location of the martyrs' graves. During the war, enemy planes sometimes bombed the exact location of the temporary cemeteries. When peace was restored, people renovated the land or built martyrs' temples, schools, fiber optic cables, etc., so the terrain has completely changed. The search for the martyrs' graves cannot be successful without the cooperation of the people. Local people, especially historical witnesses, have been and are making an important contribution by providing information and directions to the burial locations, helping the collection work become more effective."
At the same time, many localities have actively participated in building a database system, completing martyrs' records, and supporting relatives in searching for graves. Organizations, individuals, and philanthropists have also accompanied and supported funding and means for this work. In the coming time, the collection team will continue to collect the Binh Thuan Hamlet Cemetery, Binh Dai Town, excluding holidays, determined to complete the plan according to the direction of the Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 515. Up to now, the collection team has found 15 sets of HCLS, taken biological samples, carried out the next steps as prescribed and brought them to the provincial martyrs' cemetery, to conduct a reburial ceremony when receiving the opinion of the superior agency.
Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee - Head of the Provincial Steering Committee 515 Nguyen Thi Be Muoi said: Searching for and gathering HCLS is a sacred and noble political task of the entire Party, people, army and the entire political system, demonstrating the tradition and morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" of the nation, the respect, gratitude and deep appreciation for the great contributions of the heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the Fatherland.
In the coming time, all levels, sectors, localities, with the core being the armed forces, will continue to promote the search and collection of martyrs' remains, meeting the expectations of martyrs' relatives and the earnest wishes of compatriots and soldiers nationwide, contributing to firmly consolidating the "people's hearts" in the cause of building and defending the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland.
