However, Spanish tennis star Alcaraz showed extraordinary fighting spirit, thereby winning with a score of 4-6, 6-7(4), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-6(2) after 5 hours and 29 minutes, setting a record for the longest French Open final in history.

After successfully defending his Roland Garros title, Alcaraz collapsed to the floor in celebration as the crowd at Philippe Chatrier Stadium rose to their feet and applauded the 22-year-old's career-best performance, which helped him win his fifth major title.

British newspaper BBC Sports called this match an extraordinary performance beyond Alcaraz's imagination, while The Guardian newspaper called this the most magnificent final in the history of world tennis.

ESPN, America's number one sports newspaper, wrote: "This was the longest final at Roland Garros and the first match at this tournament to go to a fifth-set tie-break. Alcaraz was the eventual winner, but both players left a deep impression.

Sinner (23) and Alcaraz (22) have proven themselves to be among the world's top players. The pair could well replace the reign of the Big Three, the three greatest players of the past 20 years: Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.

The 2025 Roland Garros final marks the beginning of a fierce rivalry between two passionate young players. The era of the Big Two officially begins here. This rivalry looks set to dominate tennis for the next decade, and perhaps even beyond.”

With a convincing victory over Sinner, Alcaraz became the third youngest player in history to win five Grand Slam titles, after Bjorn Borg and Rafael Nadal.

Alcaraz became the eighth player in the Open Era to successfully defend his Roland Garros title, completing an incredible clay-court season that saw him go 19-0 at majors, winning the ATP Masters 1000 titles in Monte Carlo and Rome, before his extraordinary triumph in Paris.

The match between Alcaraz and Sinner at Roland Garros 2025 will go down in tournament history as one of the most epic finals ever. Both players captivated the sports world with a masterpiece at the French Open, bringing countless emotions to the audience.
