EU investigates TikTok over child protection
Reuters news agency quoted a document saying that the European Commission (EC) has officially initiated proceedings against the social media platform TikTok of ByteDance company under the Digital Services Act (DSA) to assess whether the platform has taken strong action to protect children.
In the document, EU Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton said that the protection of minors is a top enforcement priority for the DSA. As a platform that reaches millions of children and young people, TikTok must fully comply with the provisions of the act and play a special role in protecting minors online.
The move marks the second investigation under the DSA, following a probe into Elon Musk's social media platform X. TikTok could face fines of up to 6% of its global revenue if found guilty of violating DSA regulations.
The DSA officially came into effect on August 25 last year and is considered one of the EU's most ambitious laws on controlling online content, by imposing important obligations on online platforms.
Gen Z abandons dating apps because they are time-consuming
After a period of storming and creating a wave of online search for 'the other half', dating apps are now gradually seen by Generation Z as superficial, mechanical and not bringing the genuine emotions like traditional dating.
A recent survey by AppsFlyer found that 65% of dating apps are deleted within a month. And of those who uninstall the app, 90% do so within a week.
Morgan Anderson, a clinical psychologist and relationship coach, said the act of deleting dating apps is a rebellion by young people against the online dating movement, which they find superficial and exhausting.
Dating apps have become a "way of life" since the emergence of Tinder and competitors like Bumble and Hinge, followed by a slew of other online platforms aimed at attracting singles .
