FWD Life Insurance and the story of investing in financial knowledge for the young generation

Understanding the importance of financial skills for the future generation, FWD Group recently announced the expansion of the JA SparktheDream financialeducation program for students.

Developed in partnership with Junior Achievement (JA), the JA SparktheDream program integrates financial, social and life skills for students to help them improve their financial literacy. This expansion ensures that influential adults around students, such as parents and teachers, are also equipped with the financial knowledge and skills to support them on their journey.

FWD Life Insurance Group has demonstrated its seriousness in changing the way people feel about insurance by expanding its financial education programme JA SparktheDream .

The expansion of the JA SparktheDream program was officially announced at a business community meeting on August 2, 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City. This event is part of a series of activities of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government delegation visiting Vietnam, led by Mr. John KC Lee, GBM, SBS, PDSM, PMSM - Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (China) and organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Professor Frederick Ma, GBS, JP - Chairman of FWD Insurance Group also joined the business delegation this time and represented the Group to sign the Memorandum of Understanding with JA.

Mr. Binayak Dutta, General Director of Emerging Markets, FWD Insurance Group, shared: “We are honored to expand our cooperation with JA in Vietnam. Caring for the community, improving financial knowledge and educating the young generation for a bright future is a responsibility that FWD always takes seriously.”

“Through JA SparktheDream and our specially designed animated characters – Super Saver, Smart Spender and Super Earner – we have delivered fun and accessible financial education lessons to students. The next step is to extend financial literacy to their role models, such as their parents and teachers, to bring broader values to the community,” added Binayak Dutta.

The JA SparktheDream programme has been awarded the Silver Award at the Investor and Financial Education Awards 2023 by the Investor and Financial Education Council of the Securities and Futures Commission, contributing to the enhancement of financial and investment education in Hong Kong.

The programme was successfully piloted in Hong Kong in 2022, providing students in local schools with useful and creative content on budget management, sound financial decision-making and addressing community needs with the support of volunteers. Many interesting interactive games and quizzes have been effectively deployed in classrooms and digital platforms. The JA SparktheDream programme aims to benefit nearly 25,000 students across eight FWD markets in Asia by the end of 2024.

Launched in Vietnam for the first time in 2023, the program has reached nearly 1,700 students aged 10-12 with the support of 30 volunteers from FWD. Nearly 200 community improvement initiatives from students participated in the JA SparktheDream Challenge 2023 Asia- Pacific region. The Vietnamese representative from Lac Hong Bilingual School excellently won the Second Prize.
