On April 11, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Minh Long district ( Quang Ngai province) held a groundbreaking ceremony to build and demolish temporary and dilapidated houses in Long Hiep commune, Minh Long district. The construction funding was mobilized by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province, calling for support from press agencies with a budget of 50 million VND/house. Vietnam Law Newspaper participated in building a house for Mrs. Dinh Thi Ngieu (born in 1945, Ha Liet village).
Mrs. Nghieu is in a pitiful situation as both her husband and two children have passed away. She is old and weak, but she currently lives alone in a makeshift house made from pieces of wood.

In addition to Ms. Ngieu, two other disadvantaged households proposed by the People's Committee of Long Hiep Commune (Minh Long District), including the households of Mr. Dinh Hoay (born in 1940, Ha Liet Village) and Mr. Dinh Ngieu (born in 1950, Ha Boi Village), were also supported and organized by Tien Phong Newspaper and Investor Magazine to start construction on this occasion.
Ms. Huynh Thi Thu Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province, said that implementing the province's major policy of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses in the province by 2025, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism determined that this is not only a political task but also a social responsibility, demonstrating the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" and "The whole leaf covers the torn leaf" of our nation.
Witnessing the groundbreaking ceremony of building 3 new houses for poor and near-poor households in Minh Long district - a mountainous district with many difficulties in the province, Ms. Thuy expressed her most sincere thanks to the Editorial Board, leaders and all staff, reporters and editors of Vietnam Law Newspaper, Tien Phong Newspaper and Nha Dau Tu Magazine. This support is not only material but also a great source of spiritual encouragement, helping families have more confidence and determination to rise up in life.
Ms. Thuy also hopes that the 3 gratitude houses in Minh Long district will soon be completed smoothly, ensuring quality and on schedule so that the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in the province will soon complete its set goals, contributing to ensuring social security, building the homeland of Quang Ngai to be more and more prosperous and civilized.

Also at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Huynh Van Bon, Secretary of the Long Hiep Commune Party Committee, said that the commune currently has more than 1,200 households, with more than 4,700 people, including 61 poor households and 41 near-poor and disadvantaged households. In particular, there are currently 38 households facing housing difficulties in the commune.
“Today, I would also like to acknowledge and thank the attention of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province and the press agencies including Vietnam Law Newspaper, Tien Phong Newspaper and Investor Magazine for working with the locality to implement the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for households in difficult circumstances,” Mr. Bon said and hoped that in the coming time, many local households will receive support to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses.

In Quang Ngai province, there are currently over 6,600 households in need of support to build new or repair houses. The total cost of implementation is nearly 330 billion VND, of which the state budget is over 270 billion VND, the rest is mobilized from social sources. By the end of March, the whole province had built and repaired over 1,300 houses, reaching a rate of about 20%.
According to the Steering Committee for the implementation of the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in Quang Ngai province, in recent times, some localities have been proactive, creative, and flexible in organizing the implementation, proactively advancing funding sources for implementation and achieving good results.
Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Steering Committee for the implementation of the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in Quang Ngai province, Bui Thi Quynh Van, requested agencies, units, and localities to focus on speeding up the progress and completing the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses before September 30, 2025.

“Every two weeks, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee will invite the Secretary and Chairman of the District People's Committee to a meeting to report on the implementation of projects and the demolition of temporary and dilapidated houses according to schedule. Then, the report will be sent to the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee to direct localities to proactively carry out their work,” said Ms. Van.
To realize the goal that by September 30, 2025, no households in the province will have to live in temporary or dilapidated houses, recently, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province Nguyen Hoang Giang signed a decision to allocate nearly 93 billion VND for localities to eliminate 2,240 temporary or dilapidated houses.
