In Chile, in a solemn and emotional atmosphere, the Vietnamese Embassy coordinated with the Cerro Navia District government to organize a ceremony to celebrate the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh at the Park named after him in the capital Santiago de Chile.

According to VNA correspondent in South America, the ceremony was attended by Mr. Mauro Tamayo Rozas - District Chief of Cerro Navia, where the statue of President Ho Chi Minh is located, along with many officials of the Vietnamese Embassy, overseas Vietnamese and Chilean friends who love Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vietnamese Ambassador to Chile Nguyen Viet Cuong reviewed the revolutionary life of President Ho Chi Minh, while emphasizing his ideology of national independence, legacy and international stature.

The Ambassador portrayed President Ho Chi Minh - an outstanding son of the Vietnamese people, who spent nearly three decades traveling around the world to find a way to save the country.

During that journey, he absorbed the quintessence of human culture and became a bridge between the Vietnamese revolution and the movement for national independence around the world.

In 1945, he successfully led the August Revolution, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam - the first worker-peasant state in Southeast Asia.

Not only was he a leader for the Vietnamese people, President Ho Chi Minh also became an international symbol of the aspiration for freedom, equality and justice.

From his participation in the founding of the French Communist Party in 1920 to his advocacy for the right of self-determination of colonial peoples, Ho Chi Minh's ideology transcended national borders.

Ho Chi Minh's ideology and life devoted to the national liberation revolution have given strength to many independence movements in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong recalled his famous saying: "Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom," a call for peoples to fight for peace in the world. The Ambassador affirmed that the victory of April 30, 1975 was "the realization of President Ho Chi Minh's aspiration for a unified and free Vietnam."

This year, the Vietnamese people celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South. The victory in the struggle for national reunification is not only the result of the patriotism and indomitable will of the Vietnamese people, but also the common achievement of all those who persistently fight for peace, freedom and justice around the world.

Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the support from the Chilean people - friends who have shown solidarity and sympathy with Vietnam during difficult years. These are valuable evidences of the friendship between the two nations, built on the foundation of consensus and common humanitarian ideals.

On this occasion, Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong also introduced to Chilean friends the work "Prison Diary" by Uncle Ho. The collection of poems consists of 133 poems in Chinese characters, written during the time he was detained and escorted through many prisons in Guangxi Province (China) from August 1942 to September 1943, under the supervision of the Kuomintang government.

Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong emphasized that this special literary work of President Ho Chi Minh truly reflects his experiences, thoughts and emotions in prison.

This is not only the diary of a political prisoner, but also a self-portrait of the soul and mind of a great revolutionary. Through each verse, readers can feel his deep patriotism, his indomitable will to live, his immense compassion and his intense desire for freedom.

Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong recalled that the famous Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971, once said: "Ho Chi Minh is a source of encouragement for all those who fight for justice."

Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong also presented delegates attending the ceremony with a special edition of "Prison Diary," printed in three languages: Vietnamese - Chinese - Spanish, to help international readers, especially the Spanish-speaking community, better understand the thoughts and soul of President Ho Chi Minh./.
