
The Bac Kan City - Ba Be Lake road project connecting to Na Hang, Tuyen Quang province, section from km0+00 - km37+00 (length 37 km), has a total investment of more than 3,700 billion VND, scale of a grade III mountainous road. Construction began in late 2022, and by mid-April 2025, the road was inaugurated and became a strategic inter-provincial connection axis, contributing to shortening travel time from Bac Kan city to Ba Be Lake and Tuyen Quang province.
The route is considered one of the most beautiful routes in Bac Kan with majestic mountain scenery. This route not only serves the travel needs of the people but also creates a great driving force for tourism development in the Ba Be Lake area and connects with Na Hang, Tuyen Quang province.
In particular, the 2025 Bac Kan Open Cycling Race was recently held on the Bac Kan City - Ba Be Lake route, which is an ideal route for professional cycling competitions. Experiencing this route, athletes can admire the majestic natural scenery, fresh air, a new destination for unlimited journeys of conquest, experience, and discovery , and has left many impressions on athletes.
Visitors will experience the winding road along the mountainside, opening up panoramic views of the valley and distant mountain ranges.

Ba Be Lake is one of the 20 largest natural freshwater lakes in the world. The lake has an area of 500 hectares, located in Ba Be National Park, with a system of primeval forests on limestone mountains with 417 plant species, 299 vertebrate species, and 49 freshwater fish species. In 1995, Ba Be Lake was recognized by the World Freshwater Lake Conference, held in the US, as one of the 20 special freshwater lakes in the world that need to be protected. At the end of 2004, Ba Be National Park was recognized as an ASEAN Heritage Park and is submitting to UNESCO for recognition as a world natural heritage. In 2011, Ba Be Lake was recognized by the Ramsar Convention Secretariat as the 1,938th Ramsar site in the world and the 3rd Ramsar site in Vietnam.

Visitors to Ba Be Lake can enjoy the majestic wild natural beauty. When the motorboat cuts through the waves and glides across the calm lake, an overwhelming scene opens up before the eyes of visitors. The three main branches of the lake, Pe Lam, Pe Lu and Pe Leng, are connected to each other, creating a strip of blue water, embracing the fascinating limestone islands such as Ba Goa Island, An Ma Island, Ao Tien... poetic with blue water all year round.
Thanks to the new road, during the April 30 - May 1, 2025 holiday, the number of tourists to Bac Kan increased sharply compared to the same period. According to statistics from Ba Be district, the number of visitors to Ba Be lake reached nearly 10,000, including over 200 foreign visitors, the rest were mainly visitors from provinces and cities such as: Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Hai Phong and neighboring provinces.
Not only is it the largest natural freshwater lake in Vietnam, Ba Be is also a diverse ecosystem, where the majestic beauty of nature and the unique culture of the Tay, Nung, and Mong ethnic groups converge, with unique cultural identities.
