On the afternoon of September 7, Mr. Nguyen Van Huong, Head of the Weather Forecast Department, National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said that at present, storm No. 3 has approached the coast of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, and Thai Binh provinces.

Due to the influence of storm No. 3 , at around 11:00 a.m. today, many places recorded strong winds such as: Bach Long Vi island (Hai Phong): level 13, gusting to level 14; Co To island (Quang Ninh): level 13, gusting to level 16; Tien Yen (Quang Ninh): level 9, gusting to level 11; Dam Ha (Quang Ninh): level 8, gusting to level 12; Cua Ong (Quang Ninh): level 12, gusting to level 14; Dong Xuyen (Hai Phong): level 7, gusting to level 8 and Ba Lat estuary (Thai Binh): level 8, gusting to level 10.

Due to the impact of storm No. 3, the Northeast region has had moderate to heavy rain. Of which, Cua Ong had 113mm of rain, Cam Pha (Quang Ninh) 110mm, Cat Ba (Hai Phong) 86mm...

Mr. Huong said that in the next 1-3 hours, the storm center will move into the Quang Ninh and Hai Phong areas with a level 10-12 intensity, then the storm will move deep inland.

Under the impact of the storm's circulation, from now until the afternoon, the areas of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Nam Dinh will have strong winds of level 9-12, in which the areas of Quang Ninh, Hai Phong will have strong winds of level 11-12, gusting to level 14-15; the areas of Thai Binh, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa will have strong winds of level 9-10 and gusting to level 11-13. After that, provinces such as Lang Son, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, Hung Yen will have strong winds of level 7-8.

“For the capital Hanoi, the storm’s impact is slower than in coastal areas. From 3-4 p.m. onwards, strong winds of level 6-7 will begin to appear. We estimate that there will be gusts of level 9-10 in this area,” said Mr. Huong.

Mr. Huong also noted that, regarding the rain situation, from noon today onwards is the time of the heaviest rain in the Northeast region and it will be concentrated from now until evening, even at night. From this afternoon and tonight, the rain will expand to the Northwest region. The rain in this period will last until September 9 with a total rainfall of 150-350mm, in some places over 500mm.

In another development, this morning, on some websites, there was information shared that “the storm changed direction, going straight into Hai Phong – Hanoi”. Regarding this issue, the representative of the leader of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that as of 11:00 am today, there was no forecast about storm number 3 changing direction. In particular, the leader emphasized that there was no forecast or warning that storm number 3 would “go straight into Hai Phong – Hanoi”.
