Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee presented a gift to Mr. Herve Conan, Director of AFD Vietnam |
At the meeting, Mr. Herve Conan, Director of AFD Vietnam, introduced the overview as well as the strengths of AFD, and AFD's current activities in Vietnam. Currently, AFD has funded many projects in Vietnam in many fields such as transportation, infrastructure, energy and agriculture .
Through this meeting, AFD hopes to cooperate with the city in areas that are AFD's strengths such as the transition program associated with climate change response, green growth, and climate change recovery. It hopes to have seminars and discussions in Hue , as well as work with the city to grasp the need for support from ODA capital through AFD...
Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Hoang Hai Minh welcomed the visit and work of Mr. Herve Conan; at the same time, he emphasized that AFD's fields and strengths are very suitable for the development orientation of a green city and a tourist city. As a locality that has suffered heavy losses due to climate change and natural disasters, Hue City always focuses on overcoming and improving the quality of life of its people, aiming towards a city with a green, clean, bright environment, green transportation, green agriculture and clean energy.
Based on the proposal from AFD, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Hoang Hai Minh said that in the coming time, the two sides need to have strategies and long-term, sustainable cooperation to include in the public investment plan in the coming period. Focusing on projects is the development criteria and strengths of both sides.
Earlier on the afternoon of May 8, Secretary of the District Party Committee, Acting Chairman of the People's Council of Phu Xuan District, Vo Le Nhat, had a courtesy meeting with Mr. Herve Conan, opening up many expectations for long-term cooperation in the fields of urban, environmental and cultural heritage. Also attending were leaders of Phu Xuan District, Director of the French Institute in Hue, and representatives of several functional departments.

Here, the two sides reviewed the effective cooperation between AFD and the former Hue city (now Phu Xuan and Thuan Hoa districts), especially in the fields of sustainable urban infrastructure development, heritage conservation and climate change adaptation.
Since 2011, AFD has cooperated with the Paris Region Wastewater Treatment Association (SIAAP) to implement the project "Improving the drainage system of Hue Citadel, reducing sedimentation in Ngu Ha River".
This is one of the first projects that clearly demonstrates AFD's commitment to accompanying Hue towards a green, clean city that adapts to environmental impacts.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Vo Le Nhat expressed his hope that AFD will continue to accompany Phu Xuan district in many areas such as improving environmental sanitation, waste treatment, upgrading traffic infrastructure and providing clean water. In particular, the district leaders expect that there will be more human resource training programs, developing renewable energy and preserving heritage associated with sustainable tourism development.
Mr. Vo Le Nhat also proposed that AFD promote its role as a "bridge", connecting Phu Xuan with French localities to expand cultural and educational cooperation programs, to promote cultural exchange projects, contributing to making Hue in general and Phu Xuan in particular a model of a heritage city adapting to climate change.
For his part, Mr. Herve Conan highly appreciated the potential of Phu Xuan, emphasizing that Hue is one of the key areas that AFD wishes to continue investing and supporting in the fields of sustainable development. He said that he will spend time to conduct a more detailed survey and return to Hue in the near future to implement specific cooperation projects.
The French Development Agency (AFD) has been operating in Vietnam since 1994, focusing on supporting sustainable development, mitigating the impact of climate change and promoting social equity. In that strategy, Hue has always been a priority locality for AFD in programs on infrastructure, environment and preservation of historical and cultural values.
