A heavy snowstorm hit Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia, southern Chile, killing five foreign tourists, local authorities said on November 18.
Jose Antonio Ruiz, a Chilean official, said the dead included two Mexicans, two Germans and a British woman, all members of a tour group visiting the park.

"The tourists got lost while walking in the Los Perros area, about 11 kilometers from the park entrance. The bodies will be taken out of the 'extremely inaccessible' area of the park by helicopter," the Chilean official informed.
The Guardian reported that nine people had gone missing in Torres del Paine National Park in Patagonia on November 17 amid heavy snowfall and strong winds.
Four people were rescued from a remote area on the mountain while five tourists were confirmed dead.
"A total of 24 people participated in the search operation, including police, soldiers and mountain rescuers, along with a sniffer dog. Helicopters were not deployed in adverse weather conditions," the source said.
Torres del Paine National Park with mountains, glaciers,... is a favorite destination for explorers . In 2024, more than 367,000 tourists visited this park.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric sent his condolences to the families of the victims of the tragedy, and thanked rescue workers for their "tireless work".
