Functional departments inspect waste collection and treatment
The year 2025 is of special importance, being the year of "finishing" the implementation of the 5-year Socio-Economic Development Plan (2021-2025), the Resolution of the 11th Provincial Party Congress, the 13th National Party Congress, and preparing and consolidating the fundamental factors, creating a premise for the province and the whole country to confidently enter a new era - the era of national prosperity and prosperity.
Right from the beginning of the year, the province has resolutely implemented many comprehensive solutions, concretizing the Central Government's direction, especially focusing on key pillars: Promoting economic growth, streamlining the administrative apparatus , reforming administrative procedures and focusing on environmental protection, considering this a core element in the sustainable development strategy.
Implementing the direction of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Council, the Provincial People's Committee issued many administrative decisions to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of environmental management. At the same time, the province continued to implement Resolution No. 35/NQ-CP, dated March 18, 2013 of the Government on a number of urgent issues in the field of environmental protection and Directive No. 25/CT-TTg, dated August 31, 2016 of the Prime Minister on urgent tasks and solutions in this field.
On that basis, many action plans have been developed and implemented, especially the Plan to improve and enhance the Provincial Green Index (PGI). According to the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment - Vo Minh Thanh, the Department is assigned to advise and implement state management of the environment, effectively implementing programs such as waste classification at source; strictly monitoring waste discharge in industrial parks and clusters; monitoring enterprises with high risk of causing pollution to promptly handle and prevent environmental incidents.

In addition, the province also focuses on improving land quality, preventing land degradation, exploiting and using land sustainably, and adapting to climate change. The exploitation of surface water to replace groundwater is promoted, especially in the lower districts, which are heavily affected during the dry season.
Activities of inspection, monitoring and supervision of solid waste, wastewater and emissions have also been strengthened along with promoting communication, disseminating environmental policies and implementing joint coordination programs with socio-political organizations in the province.
In the process of attracting investment, the province clearly identifies the orientation for green and sustainable industrial development. The Provincial People's Committee directs the Department of Agriculture and Environment to closely coordinate with relevant units to ensure the licensing and approval of projects in accordance with the direction of the Provincial Party Standing Committee in Conclusion No. 209-KL/TU, dated October 13, 2021 and Document No. 3581/UBND-KTTC, dated April 21, 2022.
To minimize the negative impacts of climate change, tree planting and ecological space creation activities are focused on throughout response activities such as Earth Hour, Action Month for the Environment, International Day for Biodiversity (May 22), World Environment Day (June 5), the campaign to Make the World Cleaner,...
One of the outstanding advances in environmental protection in the province in recent times is the modernization of the environmental monitoring system. According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province currently operates 6 automatic monitoring stations, including 3 surface water monitoring stations at the Vam Co Dong and Vam Co Tay rivers and 3 air monitoring stations in Duc Hoa, Ben Luc districts and Kien Tuong town.
Over the past time, automatic surface water and air monitoring stations have been periodically maintained to ensure stable operation and to fix problems immediately after they occur. Currently, the monitoring stations are operating stably, collecting, monitoring and supervising environmental quality in places strongly affected by socio-economic development activities to serve as a basis for proposing measures to protect the quality of water sources on rivers and maintain protection of the surrounding air.
In addition, the province is also approaching the carbon credit market - a global trend to realize the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The authorities are coordinating to investigate and determine the potential of carbon credits in the area, ready to participate in the market when conditions are favorable.
With continuous efforts in environmental protection, Long An has gradually affirmed its role as a leading locality in sustainable economic development in the Mekong Delta region. In 2025, with high determination, the province will continue to promote comprehensive solutions, aiming to build a green, clean, beautiful locality, developing dynamically but still in harmony with nature, contributing to the common prosperity of the country in the new development stage./.
