Protecting Ta Xua special-use forest

Ta Xua Special Use Forest, with an area of over 17,000 hectares, stretches from Hang Dong commune (Bac Yen district) to Suoi To and Muong Thai communes (Phu Yen district). This place still preserves a rare primeval forest ecosystem; including many endangered and rare species of flora and fauna such as po mu, five-leaf pine, red-faced monkey, mountain goat, white pheasant... Ta Xua Special Use Forest Management Board has implemented synchronous solutions to protect and develop the forest.

Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh, Director of Ta Xua Special-Use Forest Management Board, said: The unit proactively coordinates with local Party committees and authorities to promote propaganda and mobilize people to actively participate in forest protection. Strengthen patrols, control, grasp the situation, strictly handle violations; apply SMART technology to create detailed patrol logs, control risks remotely; monitor fire information from satellites...

Since the beginning of the year, the Ta Xua Special Use Forest Management Board has organized 31 propaganda conferences; 2 extracurricular programs for students of schools in the core forest area and broadcast propaganda on the loudspeakers of the commune and village in 3 languages: Kinh, Thai, Mong, raising people's awareness of forest protection. Organized 46 patrols, combined with the use of SMART software to collect data at the scene and identify high-risk areas.

Mr. Mua A Pao, Hang Dong C village, Hang Dong commune, Bac Yen district, shared: Thanks to regular propaganda, now no one in the village cuts down trees or burns fields near the forest anymore. Children are also taught to love and care for forest trees from a young age.

In addition, the Board has coordinated with localities to strengthen forest protection management teams in villages, assigning PCCCR to be on duty 24/7. Focusing on creating sustainable livelihoods for people in the buffer zone of the forest, coordinating with Ngoc Binh Son La Joint Stock Company to distribute more than 145,000 seedlings to people in 18 buffer villages, including pears, plums, and medicinal plants, helping people stabilize their lives and effectively protect the forest.

Mr. Mui Van Lam, Party cell secretary, Head of Chieu village, Muong Thai commune, Phu Yen district, shared: The village has 130 households and 575 people. From 2023 to now, the village has been supported with over 13,000 cinnamon trees planted in the area bordering the special-use forest, thanks to which, the village no longer has the situation of deforestation for farming as before.

In addition, the Ta Xua Special Use Forest Management Board also organized the planting of 137.5 hectares of new forest in Suoi Khang village, Suoi To commune (Phu Yen district) and Hang Dong C village, Hang Dong commune (Bac Yen district). Coordinated with the village management board to direct the care and protection of nearly 197 hectares of planted forest and planted an additional 3.3 hectares of the Ta Xua Special Use Forest planting, restoration and conservation project in Hang Dong commune.

Currently, there is still a situation where people arbitrarily enter and exit the forest to exploit secondary forest products; some areas have not clearly defined boundaries, making forest management and protection difficult. Ta Xua Special-Use Forest Management Board will focus on coordinating with specialized agencies and localities to complete boundary records, cadastral maps, and issue forest land use right certificates. Strengthen inter-sectoral coordination and training to improve the capacity of forest rangers and grassroots forest protection teams; conserve forests, develop rare native trees, expand green ecological zones...

Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh added: Since the beginning of the year, the forest has not recorded any forest fires or serious administrative violations. This is the result of close coordination between the government, people and forest protection forces. In the coming time, the Ta Xua Special-Use Forest Management Board will continue to synchronously deploy solutions, such as: completing boundary records, cadastral maps, issuing forest land use right certificates; strengthening inter-sectoral coordination and training to improve the capacity of forest rangers and grassroots forest protection teams. Continue to invest in forest conservation, develop rare native trees, expand green ecological areas, and link conservation with economic and tourism development.
