Female accountant arrested for fraud and appropriation of nearly 22 billion VND

(QNO) - On May 5, the Office of the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Nam Province Police announced that it had just issued a decision to prosecute and temporarily detain Tran Thi Hong (born in 1985, Ha Lam town, Thang Binh) for fraud and property appropriation.

Tran Thi Hong is an accountant at the Thang Binh District Medical Center. Investigation results show that Hong borrowed money from the bank (mortgaging her house and land use rights) and borrowed money from many people to do real estate business.

At first, Hong paid back the money to the lender on time. By early 2021, the business was losing money, so Hong owed about 2.5 billion VND; however, he still borrowed money from many people to use for business and repay the debt. By around July 2021, he was unable to repay the debt.

This female accountant continued to borrow money from many people to pay off debts but lied that it was to pay off bank loans and buy real estate. To gain the trust of the lenders, Hong paid off a small amount of old debt and borrowed a larger amount, at the same time writing a note promising to pay the debt.

When the repayment deadline came, Hong did not return the money, so the lenders reported it to the investigation agency. So far, the investigation agency has determined that Hong has defrauded 10 people with a total amount of nearly 22 billion VND.
