Closing and award ceremony of the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival

With the message “Building a Vietnamese film industry rich in national identity, modern and humane”, the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival brings inspiration for artistic creativity, excitement and impression. With 177 participating films, this Film Festival has the largest number of participating films ever. The Selection Council has selected 146 films, including 91 competition films and 56 films in the panorama program.

Among the 16 feature films participating in the festival, there are many good films with artistic quality, many creative films in cinematic language, many unique discoveries in the way of telling a story. The filmmaking team from producers, screenwriters, directors, actors, cameramen, musicians , sound and editing are increasingly professional. The content and form of expression are diverse and rich. Many films have good ideological content, attractive artistic expression, aiming at human values through the character system; exploiting beauty, humanity and especially delving into the beauty in the Vietnamese soul and Vietnamese people.

Welcome performance

The 25 animated films competing at the Festival show richness and diversity in content, themes and forms of expression. Many films have brought good emotions, deeply expressing humanity and high aesthetics. Historical themes are invested in, expressed quite elaborately and creatively in terms of setting, character creation and sound design.

Lam Dong Provincial Party Secretary Tran Duc Quan and Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong presented the Golden Lotus Award for Feature Film.

The 31 documentaries participating in the festival have quite diverse topics, reflecting all aspects of social life, serving political tasks. The quality of the films is consistent, revealing a new filmmaking style approaching the language of world documentary cinema, a new creative trend, showing new prospects for international integration in the field of documentary films...

Golden Lotus Award for Science Film

Within the framework of the Film Festival, two seminars on building the Vietnamese film industry and copyright in the film industry with more than 400 delegates attending, nearly 30 opinions, frank and practical comments, proposed solutions to build the Vietnamese film industry.

Golden Lotus Award Documentary

The exhibition “Da Lat - Inspiring Cinema” attracted 1,500 visitors and residents of Da Lat City to enjoy. Many artists and viewers were very moved and proud to look back at the images in the films of the 70-year journey of Vietnamese Revolutionary Cinema.

During the 5 days, more than 10,000 audiences came to watch free movies at the Cinestar theater system and 30 mobile movie screenings, film screenings and exchanges with film crews at Da Lat University, Lam Dong Ethnic Boarding School and the province's Army Academy in Lam Ha, Dam Rong, Duc Trong, Don Duong and Da Lat districts.

In his closing speech, Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong emphasized: With many attractive, diverse and rich programs, the impressive figures on the activities of the Film Festival are the results of the summary from the reality of the exciting, vibrant and colorful atmosphere in Da Lat in the past days. Especially from the eyes and smiles of thousands of audiences coming to watch the films, the 23rd Vietnam Film Festival has left a strong impression in the hearts of audiences and film artists.

Award for Most Favorite Movie

For Vietnamese cinema to continue to develop in the coming time, it requires the efforts of industry management agencies, film activists, film production, distribution and dissemination enterprises and the support of the public. The team of people working in cinema and artists must be steadfast in political and ideological qualities; constantly learn and improve their qualifications to both absorb the quintessence of world cinema and preserve and promote the cultural identity of the Vietnamese nation, to have excellent works that attract the public, contributing to building cinema into a cultural industry reaching out to the international market.

Best Director Award

The Organizing Committee awarded 48 Festival awards to individual artists, actors and outstanding works in 4 categories: feature films, documentaries, scientific films and animations.

Best Actor Award

The Golden Lotus Awards were given to the following films: “Glorious Ashes” (feature film, produced by An Nam Films Company Limited, VIET VISION and FLEUR DE LYS); “Children in the Mist” (documentary, Varan Vietnam Audiovisual Production and Media Company Limited and Vietnam Cinema Association Film Studio); “Research on the application of technology in fire fighting” (scientific film, People's Army Cinema); “My Dream” (animated film, Vietnam Animation Film Studio Joint Stock Company).

Best Supporting Actor Award

The Silver Lotus Award was given to the films: “Mom, here is Butterfly!” (feature film, DZS Media Joint Stock Company); “Em va Trinh” (feature film, Galaxy Entertainment and Education Joint Stock Company); “Dao, Pho va Piano” (feature film, Feature Film Joint Stock Company I); “Hai ban tay” (documentary, Central Documentary and Scientific Film Studio Company Limited); “Troi Ha Noi is forever blue - Episode 2: The sky of peace” (documentary, People's Army Cinema); “Rac duong” (scientific film, Documentary Center, Vietnam Television); “Nu cuoi” (animation, Hanoi University of Theatre and Cinema); “Ba cua Do Do” (animation, Vietnam Animation Studio Joint Stock Company).

Award for Best Cinematography

The individual awards, Best Actress were given to actresses Dinh Y Nhung and Mai Cat Vi (in the film “Mom, Buom Day!”); Best Actor was given to actor Thai Hoa (in the film “Con Nhót mot chong”).

Award for Best Screenplay

In each film category, the Organizing Committee awarded the following awards: Outstanding Director, Outstanding Cinematography, Outstanding Debut Feature Film Director, Outstanding Screenwriter, Outstanding Cinematography, Outstanding Supporting Actor, Outstanding Art Designer, Outstanding Music, Outstanding Sound.

Outstanding Sound Award

In the feature film category, director Bui Thac Chuyen of the film “Glorious Ashes” was awarded the best director award; cameraman Nguyen Phan Linh Dan (film “Girl from the Past”) and cameraman Nguyen K'Linh (film “Glorious Ashes”) were awarded the best cameraman award; author Luu Huynh (scriptwriter of the film “Mother, Butterfly Day”) was awarded the best scriptwriter award; musician Ton That An (film “Glorious Ashes”) was awarded the best music award; sound designer Vick Vo Hoang (film “Em va Trinh”) was awarded the best sound award.

Award for Outstanding Designer

In addition, the Board presented awards such as: Jury Award, Audience Favorite Film Award.

Silver Lotus Award

In particular, the “Majestic Plateau” Award for the film with the best filming location in Lam Dong participating in the Film Festival was given to the film “Em va Trinh” (directed by Phan Gia Nhat Linh - produced by Galaxy Entertainment and Education Joint Stock Company).

Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Vo Ngoc Hiep presented the flag to host the 24th Film Festival to representatives of Ho Chi Minh City leaders.

With the presence of Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong, Vice Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee Vo Ngoc Hiep and Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc performed the ceremony of handing over and receiving the flag to host the 24th Film Festival.

The 24th Vietnam Film Festival in 2025 will take place in Ho Chi Minh City, known as the capital of Vietnamese cinema.
