According to Decision 522/QD-BGTVT of the Ministry of Transport , Vietnam's seaports have 296 wharves. Specifically, Quang Ninh has 14 wharves, Hai Phong has 50 wharves, Nam Dinh has 3 wharves, Thai Binh has 2 wharves, Thanh Hoa has 10 wharves, Nghe An has 7 wharves, Ha Tinh has 6 wharves, Quang Binh has 4 wharves, Quang Tri has 2 wharves, Thua Thien-Hue has 2 wharves, Da Nang has 8 wharves, Quang Nam has 3 wharves, Quang Ngai has 8 wharves, Binh Dinh has 4 wharves, Phu Yen has 1 wharves, Khanh Hoa has 17 wharves, Ninh Thuan has 3 wharves, Binh Thuan has 6 wharves.
In the Southern region, Ba Ria - Vung Tau seaport has 47 wharves, Binh Duong 1 wharves, Dong Nai 18 wharves, Ho Chi Minh City 40 wharves, Long An 3 wharves, Tien Giang 2 wharves, Dong Thap 3 wharves, Ben Tre 1 wharves, Vinh Long 3 wharves, Can Tho 17 wharves, Hau Giang 2 wharves, Soc Trang 1 wharves, Tra Vinh 2 wharves, An Giang 1 wharves, Kien Giang 4 wharves and Ca Mau 1 wharves.
Also according to the new regulations, there are changes in the number of ports in many areas. In particular, in Hai Phong, there is no longer Ha Long Mechanical Port and Border Guard Port. In Ho Chi Minh City, there are no longer Tan Cang Port, Holcim Hiep Phuoc Cement Port and Ba Son Shipbuilding and Repair Factory Port. The two ports, VIMC Hau Giang General Port and Lee & Man International Specialized Port, belong to Hau Giang Seaport, instead of Can Tho Seaport as before. Superdong Tran De - Soc Trang Port also belongs to Soc Trang Seaport area, instead of Can Tho.
The new decision adds a number of new ports, including: Van Phong 1 BOT Thermal Power Plant Port (Khanh Hoa), Nghi Son 2 Thermal Power Plant's specialized port and the port of the Nghi Son Gas & LNG Development Zone Project and other auxiliary facilities (Thanh Hoa), Trung Nam Ca Na International Port (Ninh Thuan), Hoa Phat Dung Quat general - container port (Quang Ngai).
