Báo Nhân dânBáo Nhân dân09/01/2025

NDO - On the morning of January 9, the Ben Tre Provincial Center for Disease Control reported that Ben Tre City had just recorded a chickenpox outbreak at a junior high school. The local health sector is implementing many measures to control and prevent the disease.

Immediately after detecting the case on January 3, the school contacted the families and sent the students home for isolation and treatment. As of January 8, 16 cases of chickenpox were recorded at this school. School leaders have informed and promoted chickenpox prevention and control measures for teachers to deploy to parents via the class's Zalo group. The school requires students to wear masks and disinfect when coming to class and monitors the situation of sick students who have to stay home from school.

The Ben Tre Provincial Center for Disease Control has coordinated with the Ben Tre City Medical Center to investigate and monitor outbreaks, provide guidance on hygiene, and disinfect the entire school campus and classrooms with 0.5% Cloramin B solution; and provide advice and guidance on measures to prevent and control chickenpox at schools.

According to the Ben Tre Province Center for Disease Control, chickenpox is an infectious disease caused by the Varicella Zoster virus. In cold weather conditions, especially in winter and spring, the disease is very contagious. Therefore, students studying in classes with chickenpox cases need to follow 2K (mask-disinfection), and sick students must stay home from school for at least 7 days until they recover.

The Ben Tre Provincial Center for Disease Control recommends that schools continue to monitor the chickenpox situation every day. If new cases are detected, they must immediately notify the health station; regularly notify students to wear masks and disinfect. In addition, it is necessary to propagate and advise parents to vaccinate their students against chickenpox.

Previously, Nhan Dan Newspaper reported that Ben Tre province discovered many cases of chickenpox at a garment company in Giao Long Industrial Park (Chau Thanh district). The first case appeared on November 6, 2024, then more sporadic cases were recorded at the company's third factory. To date, the number of chickenpox cases per day at this company has decreased significantly.

From November 6, 2024 to the morning of January 6, 2025, Ben Tre recorded 261 cases of chickenpox related to the outbreak at this company.
