Ms. LTNE (72 years old, from Hau Giang ) was admitted to SIS Can Tho Hospital due to dizziness and then fell. During the monitoring and treatment process, doctors discovered that Ms. E. had gallstones in the neck of the gallbladder causing acute cholecystitis, the size of the stones was up to 27mm. The stones blocked the gallbladder duct causing acute cholecystitis. If not treated promptly, it could lead to complications of infection, peritonitis, and be life-threatening.

According to Ms. E.'s daughter, on the same day of hospitalization, she suddenly felt dizzy, complained of fatigue, and fell, so she was taken to SIS for examination. The MRI image did not show any brain damage. Further medical history revealed that Ms. E. often vomited and had pain in the epigastric and right hypochondrium regions after eating and drinking. An abdominal CT scan revealed large gallstones causing cholecystitis.

According to Master, Doctor, Doctor Dang Van So Da - Department of General Surgery, SIS Can Tho International General Hospital, this is a case of a patient with cholecystitis due to large stones stuck in the neck, with a history of high blood pressure and anxiety disorder, who has been treated for more than 10 years. After consultation, the doctors decided to perform intervention by percutaneous laser lithotripsy. Divided into 2 stages, stage 1: placing a drainage tube into the gallbladder; after 14 days, stage 2: dilating the access, guiding the tube and crushing the stones with a laser and sucking all the stones out. After nearly 90 minutes of performing the procedure, a biliary tract scan was taken after lithotripsy, showing that the stones in the gallbladder area were clean, the common bile duct and duodenum were functioning well.

In the past, most patients with gallstones had to undergo laparoscopic cholecystectomy, but now they can undergo percutaneous laser lithotripsy. After undergoing a gentle surgery with a 3mm incision, Ms. E.'s health almost fully recovered on the day the drainage tube was removed.
