Hai Phong Eye Hospital promptly treated a case of a steel wire accident that pierced the left eye.

(Haiphong.gov.vn) - Information from Hai Phong Eye Hospital, at 5:00 p.m. on May 16, 2025, the Hospital received a case of a 56-year-old male patient (address in Doan Xa commune, Kien Thuy district, Hai Phong city) who had a domestic accident due to a steel wire piercing deep into the left eye area. After the accident, the patient felt pain and had blurred vision.

The patient was hospitalized and diagnosed with: left eye with torn sclera and cornea; crushed and trapped intraocular tissue at 7 hours; intraocular foreign body monitoring, poor prognosis.

The team performed the emergency surgery.

The hospital's on-duty team quickly held a consultation and was directed by the hospital leadership to perform an emergency surgery that night. The surgery was performed by Dr. Tran Manh Do - a senior specialist, resident on duty, as the main surgeon. The surgical team treated the complex laceration, sutured the damaged sclera and cornea. After about 1 hour of intervention, the surgery was successful. The patient was transferred to the post-operative room, continued to be monitored and treated at the High-Tech Service Department as required. The patient is currently receiving systemic antibiotics and anti-inflammatory treatment. Doctors expect that his health will soon stabilize and his vision can be restored to its maximum.
