Blamed for failure to naturalize young European star, Indonesian Football Federation President gets angry

Justin Hubner becoming an Indonesian citizen is the wish of many football fans in the archipelago. The young star of U21 Wolves (England) is expected to raise the level of the Indonesian national teams. However, according to Bola, the Indonesian Football Federation (PSSI) will stop interfering in Justin Hubner's naturalization process.

Justin Hubner is a young player of Dutch and Indonesian descent.

Justin Hubner’s case is special because he was called up to the Netherlands U20 team earlier this year. This shows the quality of the 2003-born midfielder. Therefore, PSSI was criticized quite a lot for “giving up” in trying to convince Hubner.

Mr. Erick Thohir, President of PSSI, expressed anger when talking about this issue: “The naturalization process has been agreed upon and promoted by us in accordance with the legal process. But if the player himself changes his mind, we cannot force him. So why is it the fault of PSSI? We have worked hard and not sat still. The reason for his (Justin Hubner) change of mind could be because of the decision to call him up to the Netherlands U20, or there were some requests from Hubner that were not in accordance with Indonesian law. I am not sure what the specific reason is. If you do not want to be part of Indonesia, I cannot stop you.”

Justin Hubner was born in 2003, his father is Indonesian. He was born in the Netherlands, and grew up in the youth academy of the local football team FC Den Bosch.

In 2020, Hubner joined Wolves' youth team. At the end of 2022, he was signed by the Premier League team to a new contract until 2025.

The player's naturalization process was interrupted after he missed two meetings with the Indonesian People's Representative Assembly.
