'4 no' tips to help prevent seasickness on your journey to a sea and island paradise

Vietnam has many beautiful islands, likened to "tourist paradises" with clear blue seas and long stretches of white sand. However, many tourists are afraid to visit because of the "phobia" of seasickness.

When taking the boat to the island, many tourists experience symptoms such as dizziness, headache, vomiting... This can affect their health, spirit and the quality of the trip.

In addition to using some anti-seasickness medications, when traveling to islands, tourists should note the following "4 no's":

Do not go on bad weather days or during stormy season

When the weather changes and the sea is rough, tourists are prone to seasickness. Therefore, before the trip, you should carefully research the weather information, listen to the advice of experienced local guides, and avoid the rainy and stormy season, rough seas, and big waves.

Depending on geographical location, each tourist island in Vietnam has its own ideal time to visit.

For example, the ideal time for tourists to visit Co To Island (Quang Ninh) is April-May because the weather is nice, cool, no storms, and the sea is calm. Meanwhile, the most ideal time to visit the "pearl island" Phu Quoc (Kien Giang) is from November to April of the following year.

The journey from the mainland to Phu Quy Island (Binh Thuan) is 2.5-3.5 hours, so it is considered a "challenge" for tourists who are afraid of seasickness. The best time to explore the island is from December to June of the following year.

Spring and Summer have calm, clear seas, light winds, and easy access to small islands. However, there are still rough seas during this time, so visitors should research carefully before departure.

Don't be too hungry and don't eat too much.

Many tourists mistakenly believe that being hungry will help them avoid vomiting. However, if you are hungry, your body will be tired and you will be more likely to get seasick.

Tourists should eat something to fill their stomachs but not too much. You should eat dry foods like bread, dumplings, sweet potatoes..., and bring along snacks like ginger candy, mint candy, and biscuits to nibble on, which will help reduce the feeling of nausea.

It is best for visitors to avoid eating foods that are high in water, greasy, spicy, carbonated, stimulants, and acidic fruits such as orange juice and grapefruit juice.

Don't sit along the train and look out the window too much.

According to the experience of tour guides, if the journey is 1.5-3.5 hours long, tourists should choose large ships with low floors to reduce the rate of seasickness. Because large ships have better balance, reducing the feeling of swaying on the water.

The positions in the middle of the ship also have less swaying, rocking, and up and down movement than the bow or stern. Many people like to sit near the window to watch the waves, but in fact, this can make you more susceptible to seasickness. Minimize reading books, newspapers, personal computers, playing games on the ship...

Don't worry too much.

Before the trip to the island, visitors should have a good night's sleep, keep a comfortable and happy mood. There is no need to worry too much because nowadays, the means of transport are much more modern. Relax, enjoy the fresh air of the sea, and be ready to welcome the exciting experiences on the island.
