Today (March 20), the round-robin stage of the 2024/2025 Korean Women's Volleyball League will end with the final match between GS Caltex Seoul Kixx and Hungkuk at 5:00 p.m.
GS Caltex Seoul Kixx has athlete Tran Thi Bich Thuy from Vietnam while Hungkuk Club owns the greatest athlete in the history of Korean women's volleyball - Kim Yeon Koung.
This will also be one of the final matches in Kim Yeon Koung's illustrious playing career as she will retire at the end of this season at the age of 37. Hungkuk FC has secured the top spot in the standings after the round-robin stage and will still have a play-off series to compete for the championship.
This season, Kim Yeon Koung, despite his age, is still Hungkuk's best striker with 521 points after the past season, ranking in the top 7 players with the most points in the tournament.
Kim Yeon Koung was born in 1988, is 1m91 tall, and has been a member of the Korean women's volleyball team since 2005. She has helped the Korean women's volleyball team maintain its position as one of the top three teams in Asia for a long time. In 2012, Kim was voted the best athlete at the London Olympics, helping the Korean team win fourth place overall.
This is the third time this season that Bich Thuy has faced Kim Yeon Koung's Hungkuk twice with GS Caltex Seoul Kixx, with 1 win and 1 loss. After today's match, Bich Thuy will return home to play for Duc Giang Chemicals to participate in the Vietnam National Championship.
