Complications after jaw slimming injection

Through medical history, the patient said that he had a slimming injection on both sides of his jaw with botulinum toxin 4 months ago at a spa, but was not told exactly what type of injection he received.

One month after the injection, the patient's jaw angle on both sides was swollen, painful, hot and red, so the patient returned to the old spa and had the left jaw angle injected and antibiotics taken. The injury was stable for a week and then started to swell and hurt again, without any discharge or pus.

The patient came to a private hospital for examination and was diagnosed with a left cheek abscess. He was treated with Augmentin 2g/day and Medrol 16mg/day antibiotics. The lesion on the left cheek was incised again. After the incision, the lesion did not improve much and left a scar in the left jaw angle. The patient then came to the Central Dermatology Hospital for examination.

After examining and performing some paraclinical tests, Dr. Vu Nguyen Binh, Department of Plastic Surgery and Rehabilitation, determined that this was a complication after injecting medicine into the jaw angle on both sides. The swelling and pain appeared on both sides of the jaw angle, making the patient uncomfortable, along with an ugly scar on the left cheek due to repeated incisions.

The ultrasound results of the patient's bilateral jaw angles showed a fluid collection, especially in the left jaw angle, where the collection formed many cavities and radiating to the cheek area; the swelling and pain continued to progress. The worrying thing was that it was impossible to know what medication the patient had been injected with, whether the injection procedure was sterile, and whether complications had been properly treated.

At the Central Dermatology Hospital, the patient was incised to control the injury; given antibiotics, and daily irrigation and dressing changes. Currently, the injury is progressing well.

At the same time, they need to carefully research whether the facility they choose to perform the service is licensed, qualified to perform the service, and whether the person performing the service is certified to practice in this field before performing any cosmetic surgery or procedure.

As soon as complications and unwanted signs occur, you should immediately go to a specialized hospital for examination and early treatment to avoid leaving behind unfortunate consequences that cannot be overcome.
