In the thousands of years of history of building and defending the country of the Vietnamese people, many events and characters remain unknown, leaving behind questions without clear answers. That gap is both challenging and attractive to those who are passionate about researching and learning about history.

Grasping that, author Nguyen Thanh Tuyen has published the book Discovering Vietnamese History , as a "key" for readers to open the door to the journey of explaining, recreating and feeling the history of the nation with a new and close approach.

The book, published by the Truth National Political Publishing House, is a collection of more than 30 articles distilled from the author's many years of research and journalism experience, most of which have been published on media channels such as Phap luat 4 phuong, Kien thuc (now Tri thuc va Cuoc song), Zingnews (now znews.vn) ...

The special feature of the book lies in the author's choice of a popular historical narrative style, not too academic, not dry but still ensuring the reliability of historical events and figures. Through the book, readers will discover little-known stories, and at the same time explain some issues in ancient and medieval Vietnamese history that still have inconsistent opinions.

The book is divided into 4 parts:

Part I: Marks of famous people: Highlights the marks and special features in the lives and careers of some famous people of Vietnam.

Part II: In the harem: Introducing some secret stories of the harem of ancient dynasties.

Part III: Some decoding: Explaining and exploring some historical mysteries, hidden historical corners or somewhat strange historical realities from a historical perspective to contribute to providing a clear and easy-to-understand view of some issues, characters and events in Vietnamese history.

Part IV: The Ancients' Many Stories: Introduces some interesting or rarely mentioned stories in history. The stories more or less contain necessary information to understand some aspects of the country's history, or contain useful messages or lessons that the ancients want to send to future generations.

Each story in the book is like a sharp slice of ancient and medieval Vietnamese history, from the imprints in the lives of famous people, to the secrets of the harem, strange events, mysterious cases or the strategic behavior of the ancients.

The articles do not stop at retelling, but also suggest critical thinking, analyze historical context, thereby helping readers understand more deeply about the times and people of historical periods.

From a historical perspective, many articles in Discovering Vietnamese History act as general research outlines, although not going too deeply into academics, but still ensuring accuracy, being guided by official, verified documents.

Thereby, the book contributes to decoding some historical issues that are still controversial such as: Why was Vietnam able to survive steadfastly for more than 1,000 years under Chinese domination? The mystery of who was the wife who was treated specially by Ly Thai To? How did Ho Quy Ly actually establish the crown prince?...

What makes Discovering Vietnamese History so appealing is the simple, emotional writing style that is close to a wide range of readers, especially the young, who often assume that history is only for the classroom or scholars. Many stories in the book make readers feel like they are reading a novel, while also being equipped with more knowledge, evoking pride and a better understanding of their origins.

In the context of modern society, when learning history in schools is sometimes underestimated, a book like Discovering Vietnamese History is a strong affirmation that history is not dry if we know how to tell it. The work brings many practical values, not only in knowledge but also in spirit, helping young people have a new perspective to understand and love the history of our country more.
