According to information from the Hai Phong City Border Guard Command, at 6:35 p.m. on May 5, the Hai Phong City Border Guard Command received a report from the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority that the Viet Anh 26 ship carrying sand, with 6 crew members on board, was sailing from Quang Ninh to Hai Phong, about 6 nautical miles from the mouth of Cat Ba Bay; due to complicated weather, big waves, and dense fog, the ship sank.


Hai Phong City Border Guard brought the injured sailors ashore.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Hai Phong City Border Guard Command directed the Cat Ba Border Guard Station to mobilize 1 ship, 1 boat and 11 officers and soldiers directly commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Bui Anh Tuan, Deputy Station Chief, and requisitioned 2 boats of local people operating in the bay to coordinate the rescue.

The Viet Anh 26 ship sank about 6 nautical miles from Cat Ba Bay.

At 7:10 p.m. the same day, the rescue team reached the scene; at this time, the Viet Anh 26 ship was sinking, the rescue team promptly approached and brought 6 crew members onto the unit's boat.

By 7:50 p.m., the rescue team had brought the six crew members safely ashore and taken them to Cat Hai District Medical Center for care. The crew members are currently in stable health and are continuing to be monitored by doctors.

Hai Phong City Border Guard is coordinating with relevant agencies, units and vehicle owners to salvage the ship, ensuring safe traffic through the above maritime route.
