An Giang Provincial Border Guard launched a high-point competition to combat IUU fishing.

On the morning of August 20, the Border Guard Command of An Giang province held a ceremony to launch a peak emulation campaign against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Representatives of the departments signed the competition agreement.

The peak competition period is from August 20 to September 2, with the following contents and targets: Competition to do well in disseminating, educating , and propagating to raise awareness, responsibility, and determination to carry out tasks; competition to do well in patrolling, controlling, and thoroughly handling IUU violations; competition to do well in coordinating, cooperating, and exchanging information between functional forces performing the task of combating IUU fishing; competition to promote foreign affairs in handling cases of Vietnamese fishing vessels being chased, controlled, and arrested by foreign functional forces; competition to do well in ensuring absolute safety while performing tasks at sea.

Speaking at the conference, Colonel Nguyen Van Hiep, Deputy Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, Political Commissar of the An Giang Provincial Border Guard Command emphasized: “Upholding the spirit of responsibility, solidarity, coordination, resolutely fighting and preventing violations of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing, the Provincial Border Guard Command calls on all officers and soldiers to uphold the spirit of responsibility, solidarity, coordination, successfully implementing the contents and emulation targets of the peak period that have been set; effectively preventing and ending the situation of fishing vessels and fishermen violating foreign waters, thoroughly handling IUU fishing violations, removing the IUU yellow card warning of the European Commission (EC)”.
