Minister Nguyen Hong Dien works with the US-APEC Business Alliance

On the morning of May 15, local time, in Jeju, South Korea, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and the delegation had opening activities for the series of activities from May 15-16, when attending the APEC Ministerial Meeting on Trade (MRT) with the theme "Building a sustainable future: Connectivity, innovation, prosperity".

Early in the morning of May 15, the Minister had a meeting with the US-APEC Business Alliance to discuss opportunities to promote trade between Vietnam and the US as proposed by the alliance.

Attending the meeting were Mr. Alex Parle, Executive Vice President, APEC National Center; Mr. John Goyer - US Chamber of Commerce); representatives of US businesses such as: Google, Microsoft, Citi, Mastercard, Ups, Novelis, Organon...

Also attending the meeting, on the side of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, there were leaders of Departments, Divisions and units such as: Department of Multilateral Trade Policy, Department of Foreign Market Development, Department of Trade Defense, Office of the Inter-sectoral Steering Committee for International Economic Integration, and Vietnam Trade Office in Korea.

Overview of the working session between Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and the Ministry of Industry and Trade delegation with the US - APEC Business Alliance

At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien shared Vietnam's cooperation priorities in the coming time with US businesses.

At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien - Head of the Vietnamese delegation, affirmed that Vietnam is currently a dynamic and responsible member of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) and an attractive destination for global strategic investors.

Therefore, the Vietnamese Government is constantly striving to improve institutions, reform administrative procedures, increase policy transparency, and improve enforcement capacity with the goal of creating a favorable, transparent, and safe investment and business environment, ensuring the rights and legitimate interests of foreign investors in accordance with international commitments.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien called on the US-APEC Business Alliance to strengthen investment cooperation with Vietnam, building a substantive, harmonious and sustainable economic-trade partnership between the two countries.

Sharing about Vietnam's cooperation priorities in the coming time, the Minister said that Vietnam gives high priority to strategic cooperation areas such as: Semiconductor technology, supporting industry, renewable energy, digital economy, innovation, artificial intelligence... and especially service areas with high added value.

The Minister also discussed and answered a number of issues that US business representatives were concerned about regarding Vietnam's investment and business environment, measures to promote the investment and business environment, develop trade cooperation; resolve a number of obstacles, create maximum convenience for businesses in production and business activities... of enterprises of the two countries; including the issue of exchanging and negotiating with the US side on tax policies, continuing to promote economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Immediately afterwards, on the morning of May 15, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien had a working session with Ms. Ngozi Iweala - WTO Director General and Korean Trade Minister Cheong In-kyo.

Representatives of US businesses highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts to improve the investment and business environment in recent times and shared cooperation and development orientations in the coming time.

Leaders of functional Departments and Offices in the Ministry of Industry and Trade attended the working session with the US - APEC Business Alliance.

Business representatives affirmed that the Vietnam - US relationship plays a very important role for the US business community.

The US-APEC Business Alliance is an initiative coordinated by a US-based industry association that has been involved in APEC for many years. Representatives of US businesses come from many different sectors and most of them have investment projects in Vietnam.
