At the invitation of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh , Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra paid an official visit to Vietnam from May 15 to 16.
The visit takes place as the two countries prepare to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1976-2026), and their strategic partnership is developing positively.
The motorcade of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra entered the grounds of the Presidential Palace amidst the joyful welcome of the schoolchildren.
As the national anthems of both countries played, the two Prime Ministers, along with their delegations and government officials, performed the flag-raising ceremony.
This is the first official visit to Vietnam by a Thai Prime Minister in 11 years, and also the first official visit by Ms. Shinawatra to Vietnam in her capacity as Prime Minister of Thailand. It is also the first joint cabinet meeting of the Prime Ministers of the two countries in 10 years.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh invited Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to review the honor guard of the Vietnam People's Army.
The enhanced Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Thailand is developing positively. Thailand values consolidating and developing its good friendly cooperative relationship with Vietnam.
At the Government headquarters, the two leaders toured an exhibition of photographs commemorating the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Following the welcoming ceremony, the Prime Ministers of the two countries posed for a group photo in the main hall of the Government Office headquarters. The two leaders shook hands before the talks.

Vietnam has 18 newly approved investment projects in Thailand and 3 projects with adjusted capital, with a total registered capital of US$34.2 million, ranking 33rd out of 80 countries and territories receiving Vietnamese investment.
In terms of trade, Thailand is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner in ASEAN. In 2024, total bilateral trade reached over US$20.2 billion, an increase of 6.6% compared to 2023.
In terms of investment, Thailand currently has 761 active projects with a total registered capital of over US$14.8 billion, ranking 9th out of 149 countries investing in Vietnam and 2nd among ASEAN countries investing in Vietnam (after Singapore).
The leaders of the two governments agreed to promote the implementation of the "Three Connections" strategy in three areas: connecting supply chains; connecting businesses and localities of the two countries; and connecting sustainable growth strategies.
