Ministry of Construction and French partner sign cooperation agreement in railway sector

Within the framework of French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Vietnam, on May 27, Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy worked with Mr. Remy RIOUX, Regional Director of the French Development Agency (AFD) and representatives of the European Union Delegation to Vietnam to discuss EU and French support in the fields of transport and construction.

At the meeting, the EU and France informed about the orientation and plan to support greening Vietnam through supporting emission reduction in transport with non-refundable aid for transport projects in Vietnam.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy highly appreciated AFD's cooperation in the field of transport and construction in recent times through the implementation of railway projects as well as support in the efficient use of energy and low-carbon transition in buildings towards sustainable urban development.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy also asked the EU and France to support the Ministry of Construction in implementing programs and plans on energy transition in transportation, greenhouse gas emission reduction, and climate change response to fulfill Vietnam's commitment to zero net emissions by 2050 at the 26th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP26), focusing on training support and capacity building.

At the working session, Deputy Minister Nguyen Danh Huy, together with Mr. Remy RIOUX, General Director of AFD Global and Mr. Diego DIAZ, President of the French National Railways International Corporation (SNCFI), signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Construction of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the French Development Agency of the French Republic and the French National Railways International Corporation on enhancing the capacity of the Ministry of Construction's management staff in the railway sector.

Previously, on the morning of May 26, Minister Tran Hong Minh and French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier BROCHET signed a Letter of Intent between the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction and the French Ministry of Transport on promoting cooperation in the transport sector. The signing of the Letter of Intent aims to implement the Joint Statement establishing a comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and France on October 7, 2024 during the visit to France by General Secretary andPresident To Lam, demonstrating the determination of the two sides in cooperation in transport from aviation, maritime, waterways and railways.
