Faced with the situation of production and trade of fake food, especially Regarding fake milk, fake MSG, fake cooking oil and fake health food, the Ministry of Health requires localities to urgently take action.
This move was made after the Prime Minister 's direction in Official Dispatch No. 40/CD-TTg dated April 17 regarding the production and distribution of fake milk, which has caused confusion among many consumers who have purchased and used the product.
The Ministry of Health requested members of the Inter-sectoral Steering Committee and People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities to deploy three key groups of tasks.
Firstly, the authorities need to strengthen market inspection and control, focusing on detecting and strictly handling products of unknown origin, counterfeit goods, and poor quality goods, especially fake milk and fake health protection foods. Special attention should be paid to products that have not yet carried out self-declaration procedures or registered declarations as prescribed.
Second, the Ministry requires tightening food advertising activities on the Internet and mass media. Authorities are required to review and strictly handle violations, while promoting the dissemination of food safety laws to raise consumers' vigilance when choosing products.
Third, the Ministry of Health also requested to review and re-evaluate current regulations on food safety, especially for milk, nutritional products and functional foods. If necessary, relevant agencies should proactively amend or propose amendments to increase management effectiveness.
Previously, the Ministry of Public Security dismantled a production and distribution network of 573 brands of fake milk powder for people with diabetes, kidney failure, premature babies, and pregnant women, with a revenue of nearly 500 billion VND. According to regulations, milk powder with quality indicators of some substances below 70% of the declared level is sufficient grounds to determine that it is fake. From the two main enterprises, Rance Pharma and Hacofood Group, this group established 9 more companies to produce and distribute fake milk powder. This fake milk production network has an ecosystem covering the whole country.
Phu Tho Provincial Police also discovered that Famimoto Vietnam Co., Ltd. produced a large quantity of MSG, cooking oil, seasoning powder, and seasoning powder with signs of counterfeiting. According to the results of the appraisal request from the Institute of Criminal Science of the Ministry of Public Security, the composition, quantitative and qualitative nutritional value of MSG, cooking oil, premium seasoning powder, and seasoning powder products did not meet the standards announced by the company or the standards stated on the product label.
The Food Safety Department recommends that people do not use counterfeit products that have been announced by the police.
