Accordingly, hitter Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates are in group A with Australia, India, Taiwan, Hong Kong (China) while group B includes Kazakhstan, Philippines, Iran, Indonesia, Mongolia, and New Zealand.
Similar to the AVC Challenge Cup, the AVC Nations Cup does not feature the top Asian teams that have qualified for the FIVB Nations League, namely China, Japan, and Thailand. Therefore, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates are considered the strongest in the AVC Nations Cup 2025. The most formidable opponent for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team is the Kazakhstan team, currently ranked 31st in the world , 1 place above the Vietnam team in the International Volleyball Federation rankings.
According to the format of the AVC Nations Cup 2025, the teams will compete in a round robin to select the 4 highest ranked teams from the 2 groups (8 teams) to compete in the quarterfinals. Participating in the AVC Nations Cup is an opportunity for Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and her teammates to accumulate points to improve their world rankings. In addition, it also helps coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet complete the squad for major international tournaments this year, including the World Championship (August) and the 33rd SEA Games (December) in Thailand.
