Four scientists win Bao Son Prize 2024

On the evening of May 11, 2024, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung attended the 2024 Bao Son Award Ceremony at the Opera House (Hanoi). From 28 registered works, the Bao Son Award Council, including leading Professors and Doctors, organized 2 preliminary and final rounds to select 04 outstanding scientific and technological works (each prize worth 120,000 USD) that have been applied in practice, making positive contributions to social development and bringing practical benefits to the country.

Field of Natural Sciences: Research and production of African swine fever vaccine by Dr. Nguyen Van Diep, AVAC Vietnam Joint Stock Company;

Health Science Field: Research project on the application of endoscopic surgery in the treatment of some thyroid diseases conducted by Labor Hero, People's Physician, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Ngoc Luong;

Field of Engineering Technology: Research and application of advanced three-phase composite materials and structures in engineering conducted by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dinh Duc, University of Engineering and Technology, Vietnam National University , Hanoi ;

Social Sciences and Humanities: The work History of ethnic policies of Vietnamese Communists by Professor Furuta Motoo, President of Vietnam - Japan University, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

According to the assessment of the scientific community, these are works that are considered to bring remarkable progress in research and application of technology, bringing practical value, high economic and social efficiency, contributing to promoting sustainable development and improving the quality of life. In particular, Prof. Dr. Furuta Motoo is the first foreigner to be awarded the Bao Son National Award.

Speaking at the Bao Son National Award 2024 ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung congratulated the scientists who were just honored, and highly appreciated and thanked Mr. Nguyen Truong Son and Bao Son Group for forming and developing the Bao Son Fund. The Deputy Prime Minister said that the Bao Son Award is gradually becoming an annual, prestigious award with profound humanistic values, inspiring scientists, recognizing, respecting and encouraging the spirit of persistent, silent dedication of scientists to the development of the country. In the current context, the development of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation are becoming decisive factors in the sustainable development of nations and peoples.

Bao Son Award was established in 2010 by Bao Son Education and Training Support Fund. The award aims to find and honor outstanding scientists and inventors with works of great practical and humanistic value.

According to Mr. Nguyen Truong Son, Chairman of Bao Son Education and Training Support Fund, the Award will be maintained and developed for many decades, with an additional value of 10,000 USD per award/year. "It is expected that by the end of the 21st century, the value of each award will be equivalent to 1 million USD, the budget for the annual Award is 5 million USD," he said.
