Meanwhile, Mr. Le Thanh Hai - Director of the Center for Economic Application Consulting - Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies said that the city is promoting a plan to convert 400,000 gasoline vehicles to electric vehicles for technology and delivery drivers.
According to Mr. Hai, converting technology motorbikes to electric vehicles is necessary and feasible, because this group of vehicles is one of the major sources of emissions in Ho Chi Minh City. Every day, each driver travels an average of more than 100 km with a working frequency of 8-12 hours, causing a very large amount of emissions. Converting this group of subjects to electric vehicles will bring about clear emission control effects.
The Ho Chi Minh City Institute for Development Studies completed the draft in June and submitted it to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in July. "The conversion of technology motorbikes to electric vehicles is being vigorously implemented, with the expectation that in the next 2 years, about 80% of drivers will switch. Then, in the next 2-3 years, this rate will reach 100%," said Mr. Hai.
Previously, in 2023, the Institute for Development Studies surveyed more than 400 drivers of Grab, Be and Gojek. The results showed that with a distance of 100km/day, each driver spent from 70,000 - 100,000 VND on gasoline/day. Meanwhile, drivers using electric motorbikes (like Xanh SM) only spent about 20,000 VND on electricity/day.
