Vietnam women's volleyball and the challenging SEA Games

The Vietnamese women's volleyball team is entering the training phase to prepare for the 33rd SEA Games with the goal of winning the championship.

At the 29th SEA Games in 2017, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team was targeted to reach the finals. However, we lost in the semi-finals and only won a bronze medal. At the 30th SEA Games in 2019 in the Philippines, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team was targeted to win a medal but only finished 5th.

At the 31st SEA Games in 2022, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team lost to Thailand in the final and only won a silver medal. This achievement continued to be repeated at the 32nd SEA Games, Vietnam finished second after losing to Thailand. The consolation was that the Vietnamese women's volleyball team won 1 set against Thailand in the final.

Towards the 33rd SEA Games, the target assigned by the Sports Department to the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is to win the championship. Mr. Le Tri Truong - General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation once spoke to the press: "The target of winning the gold medal is a very high target. However, the team as a whole accepts the task to make efforts to prepare and strive to achieve the set results. The high target is the pressure for each coach and player to focus on preparing and conquering."

What makes the audience optimistic is that last August, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team defeated Thailand right at home to win the SEA V.League 2025 championship for the first time.

However, the women's volleyball team is also facing pressure when spiker Bich Tuyen will almost certainly be absent from SEA Games 33. Currently, Tuyen is not training with the Vietnamese women's volleyball team. Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet is forced to plan to find a replacement for Bich Tuyen, but not every player has the superiority of this former player. Besides, the absence of Dang Thi Hong also reduces the strength of the Vietnamese women's volleyball team.

Currently, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team is training in Quang Ninh . According to research, in case they do not go abroad for training, the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team can practice for a short time in the Southern region to change the atmosphere for the players.

Coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet has gathered 20 players at this time. Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and Tran Thi Bich Thuy are not on the list. According to the plan, Thanh Thuy and Bich Thuy will return home in early December. Both players are competing in the Japanese Women's Volleyball Tournament. However, the above two players are important factors of the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team.

Two years ago, middle blocker Bich Thuy and main blocker Thanh Thuy were members of the Vietnam Women's Volleyball Team that won the Silver Medal at the 32nd SEA Games. With Bich Tuyen likely absent, Thanh Thuy will be the number 1 training player.

The list of 20 players selected by Mr. Nguyen Tuan Kiet for training in Quang Ninh includes: Nguyen Khanh Dang, Vo Thi Kim Thoa, Hoang Thi Kieu Trinh, Doan Thi Lam Oanh, Pham Quynh Huong, Le Thanh Thuy, Nguyen Thi Trinh, Nguyen Phuong Quynh, Le Thi Yen, Hoang Hong Hanh, Luu Thi Hue, Vi Thi Yen Nhi, Bui Thi Anh Thao, Le Thuy Linh, Ha Kieu Vy, Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, Doan Thi Xuan, Nguyen Thi Uyen, Dang Thi Kim Thanh and Le Nhu Anh.

Players Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, Pham Quynh Huong, Bui Thi Anh Thao, Vi Thi Yen Nhi, and Le Thuy Linh will gather late because they are competing in the final round of the 2025 National A-League in Ha Tinh (closing on November 1).

At the 33rd SEA Games, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team will face a big challenge. This is the time when we need to keep the players in the best form.

The Southeast Asian Sports Federation has announced that petanque will be officially held at the 33rd SEA Games. The announcement was sent to the Olympic Committees of the countries in the Southeast Asian region on October 24.

After a meeting between the World Petanque Federation, the Thai Olympic Committee, and the Southeast Asian Sports Federation in France, the parties reached a consensus that petanque will be officially organized at the 33rd SEA Games.

However, the World Petanque Federation accepted the Southeast Asian Sports Federation's designation of an independent Petanque Sports Independence Committee as the organizing unit for petanque at the 33rd SEA Games. The Petanque Association of Thailand (PAT) was not allowed to participate in the organization.

Pentanque Sports Independence Committee will coordinate with the Asian Petanque Federation and the World Petanque Federation to ensure that petanque is held in accordance with regulations at the 33rd SEA Games.

The petanque event of SEA Games 33 has 11 events including men's technique, men's individual, men's doubles, men's trio; women's technique, women's individual, women's doubles, women's trio; mixed doubles, team of 2 men and 1 woman, team of 2 women and 1 man.

Vietnam Sports will participate in petanque at the 33rd SEA Games. The goal is for the players to strive to win a Gold Medal. The Vietnamese petanque team will participate in the 2025 Asian Championship in Malaysia next week.

The players participating in the tournament include Minh Luan, Ngo Ron, Ngoc Kiet, Van Dung, Nguyen Thi Hien, Anh Lan, Thu Thao, Kim Thanh, Nhu Y, Nguyen Thi Thi, Hoang Phuc, Van Toan, Ngoc Diep, Thanh Tra, Thuy Kieu, and Lai Thi Dung.
