The men's volleyball team's efforts

The Vietnamese men's volleyball team gathered in Da Nang in April and was "tested" in two international tournaments to prepare for the number 1 goal this year, the 33rd SEA Games, which will take place in Thailand in December. At the Asian Men's Club Championship held last month in Japan, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team participated under the name Sport Center 3. Facing two leading clubs in the continent, Al Rayyan (Qatar) and Al Muharraq (Bahrain), which have very strong foreign players, coach Tran Dinh Tien and his team could not create any surprises. However, as this experienced coach confided, competing with strong opponents helped the Vietnamese men's volleyball team know their abilities and identify weaknesses to overcome. Some Vietnamese players such as Nguyen Ngoc Thuan, Tran Duy Tuyen, Nguyen Van Quoc Duy, and Truong The Khai demonstrated some of their abilities through confident plays and impressive scores.

At the 2025 AVC Nations Cup Asian Volleyball Tournament taking place in Bahrain, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team left an impression with a convincing 3-0 victory over the New Zealand team. This victory not only brought coach Tran Dinh Tien and his team to the quarterfinals but also helped the Vietnamese team surpass the Indonesian team in the rankings of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB). The Vietnamese men's volleyball team (ranked 53rd in the world) also became the Southeast Asian team with the highest ranking on the FIVB rankings, followed by Indonesia (ranked 56th), the Philippines (ranked 66th), and Thailand (ranked 67th). Mr. Le Tri Truong, General Secretary of the Vietnam Volleyball Federation (VFV), said that after the 2025 AVC Nations Cup, the Vietnamese men's volleyball team aims to strengthen its squad, participate in suitable international tournaments such as the Southeast Asian tournament (SEA V.League) and the most important goal is still to compete for the 33rd SEA Games gold medal.

New position of Vietnamese women's volleyball

While the Vietnamese men's volleyball team is barely outside the world's top 50, the women's team is making continuous progress. Successfully defending the championship title of the AVC Nations Cup at home recently, Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and the Vietnamese women's volleyball team for the first time in history rose to 25th place in the world and ranked 4th in Asia (after China, Japan, Thailand). This is a new position for Vietnamese women's volleyball, a push towards new milestones in the future.

The Vietnamese women's volleyball team is considered to have the most talented generation of athletes ever. In addition to the pillars such as Tran Thi Thanh Thuy, Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, Doan Thi Lam Oanh, Nguyen Khanh Dang, coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet also has new factors such as Nguyen Thi Uyen, Tran Thi Bich Thuy, Nguyen Thi Phuong, Vi Thi Nhu Quynh, Pham Thi Hien who have matured through each match. In parallel with building the team, the Vietnamese women's volleyball team also focuses on a youth team with many potential faces, promising to replace the seniors.

The year 2025 also marks another historic milestone for Vietnamese women's volleyball when for the first time the team will compete in the World Championship in Thailand and also the first time the youth team will qualify for the U.21 World Volleyball Championship in Indonesia. To prepare for these two important tournaments (both taking place in August), from June 28 to July 5 in Vinh Phuc , the Vietnamese women's volleyball team and the U.21 team will compete in the VTV Cup International Women's Volleyball Tournament. This tournament, with the participation of strong teams such as Russia, China, and Thailand, is a great opportunity for the Vietnamese national team and youth team to hone their skills.

With the current "golden generation", the Vietnamese women's volleyball team is also expected to surpass Thailand for the first time to win the gold medal at the 33rd SEA Games taking place in December. If successful, it will be a beautiful ending for Vietnamese women's volleyball.
