The Provincial Green Index (PGI) is a set of indicators that evaluate and rank environmentally friendly localities from a business practice perspective such as: the level of application of environmentally friendly technology, the level of management and environmental behavior of enterprises, the level of interest and willingness to invest in environmental issues of local authorities and many other important environmental issues.
PGI has four component indicators including: minimizing environmental pollution and negative impacts of climate change; ensuring compliance with minimum environmental standards; the leadership role of provincial authorities in promoting green practices; policies and services to support businesses in environmental protection.
The PGI's component indicators are built on 41 survey indicators and statistical data to reflect these four key policy objectives, allowing provincial and municipal leaders to assess their implementation progress.
Localities that score high on the PGI are those that are making efforts to control pollution and reduce environmental incidents caused by businesses (component index 1), develop and enforce reasonable regulations to ensure compliance without creating too much burden (component index 2), guide businesses to implement green activities and environmentally friendly procurement (component index 3), and promote green activities through targeted incentives and support programs (component index 4).
According to the announcement of the Vietnam Federation of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), in 2024, Gia Lai is in the list of 30 provinces and cities at the top of the PGI rankings with position 30/63 (25.05 points); ranked 2nd in the Central Highlands region (after Dak Nong province).
And, all four component indices of Gia Lai increased sharply compared to 2023: the index of reducing environmental pollution and negative impacts of climate change reached 5.46 points, an increase of 0.02 points; ensuring compliance with minimum environmental standards reached 6.91 points, an increase of 1.05 points; the leadership role of the provincial government in promoting green practices reached 6.87 points, an increase of 2.85 points; policies and services to support businesses in environmental protection reached 5.81 points, an increase of 1.08 points.
In particular, the component index 3 on the leadership role of provincial authorities in promoting green practices reached 6.87 points, an increase of 2.85 points compared to last year, and Gia Lai ranked 4th out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide. The improved score in this component index shows the level of integration of environmental goals into the broader state management responsibilities of provincial authorities.
Specifically, the government has integrated environmental protection goals into general development policies, into public procurement activities, and into activities to guide and disseminate legal regulations and practices to support businesses in "greening" their operating processes, production business models, and business behavior.

Mr. Nguyen Tu Quyet - Deputy Director of the Provincial Economic Zone Infrastructure Development Company - said: "To ensure environmental protection, the Company has built a centralized wastewater treatment system with a capacity of 2,000 m3/day and night, and installed an automatic wastewater, sludge, and exhaust gas monitoring system.
