In the period of 2021-2025, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment approved Component Project No. 7 - Renovation and upgrading of Dong Hai salt field infrastructure, with a total investment of 127.39 billion VND; to date, 75.46 billion VND has been disbursed, reaching 61.76% of the capital plan. At the same time, the province invested in 01 salt processing and preparation workshop in Long Dien commune and deployed 03 clean salt production models according to the product consumption chain with a total area of 04 hectares, contributing to improving the productivity and quality of commercial salt.
Currently, the province has 06 recognized salt-producing villages, of which 04 have established stable cooperatives. The product "Tan Thuan - Dam Doi White Salt" has been granted a certificate of trademark protection by the Department of Intellectual Property, affirming the distinctive brand of Ca Mau salt in the market.
However, the province's salt industry still faces many difficulties: degraded production infrastructure, small scale, salt farmers have difficulty accessing credit capital, and a tourism model associated with the salt industry has not yet been formed. Some cooperatives still have limited management capacity and lack of linkage in product consumption.
Entering the 2026-2030 period, Ca Mau province aims to stabilize the salt production area at 1,670 hectares, and at the same time proposes that the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment support 205 billion VND to renovate and upgrade salt field infrastructure, develop clean salt production models, rural tourism and post-salt products, aiming at the goal of sustainable development of Ca Mau salt industry, improving the lives of salt farmers and the value of local products./.
