The whole country officially has 34 provinces and cities.

(GLO)- On the morning of June 12, at the 9th Session of the 15th National Assembly, 461/465 National Assembly deputies (96.44%) voted in favor of the Resolution on the arrangement of provincial-level administrative units. Thus, from today, the whole country officially has 34 provincial-level administrative units.

Specifically, the country has 28 provinces and 6 centrally-run cities. There are 19 provinces and 4 newly formed cities after the arrangement including: Tuyen Quang, Lao Cai, Bac Kan, Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Ngai, Gia Lai, Khanh Hoa, Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Vinh Long, Dong Thap, Ca Mau, An Giang, Hai Phong City, Da Nang City, Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho City.

11 provinces and cities remain the same: Cao Bang, Dien Bien, Ha Tinh, Lai Chau, Lang Son, Nghe An, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Son La and Hanoi City, Hue City.

Of the 34 provinces and cities, the National Assembly agreed to arrange the entire natural area and population of Binh Dinh and Gia Lai provinces into a new province called Gia Lai province. After the arrangement, Gia Lai province has a natural area of ​​21,576.53 km2 and a population of 3,583,693 people. Gia Lai province borders Dak Lak province, Quang Ngai province, Cambodia and the East Sea.

The National Assembly assigns the Government, People's Councils, People's Committees of provinces and cities specified in Article 1 of this Resolution and relevant agencies and organizations to be responsible for organizing the implementation of this Resolution; arranging and perfecting the organizational apparatus of local agencies and organizations; supporting and promptly resolving difficulties and problems of cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers affected by the implementation of the arrangement; ensuring social security, legitimate and legal rights and interests of people and businesses and requirements for socio-economic development, national defense and security in the area.

The Government, ministries and central branches are responsible for guiding and promptly handling issues arising in the process of arranging provincial-level administrative units and perfecting the organization of local government apparatus at all levels to implement the two-level local government model.

The National Assembly Standing Committee, the Nationalities Council, the National Assembly Committees, the National Assembly delegations, and National Assembly deputies, within the scope of their tasks and powers, are responsible for supervising the implementation of this Resolution.
