Throughout his 65-year life, driven by a desire to contribute to humanity, Karl Marx became a brilliant thinker, a great revolutionary, and an outstanding leader of the working class, working people, and oppressed nations worldwide .

Born on May 5, 1818, into an intellectual family in bourgeois society, and witnessing the oppression, exploitation, and injustice created by the capitalist system for the benefit and profit of the bourgeoisie, Karl Marx, through his scientific and practical activities, transformed his worldview from idealism to materialism, shifting from a revolutionary democratic stance to a communist one – firmly placing himself at the forefront of those fighting for the interests of the working class and working humanity. At the age of 17, in his high school graduation thesis entitled "Thoughts of a Young Man Choosing a Profession," Marx wrote: "History calls those who make themselves noble by dedicating themselves to the common good great men; experience praises those who bring happiness to most people as the happiest men." Driven by that noble goal, Karl Marx dedicated his entire life to the ideal of class liberation and human emancipation, aiming to build a better society – a communist society.

According to Marx, to achieve happiness, people need freedom, and to achieve freedom, they must fight against oppression and exploitation to liberate themselves. Bearing a lofty humanism, with compassion and anxieties, concerns, and empathy for the working class and the most marginalized in society, Marx believed that happiness is freedom, being masters of oneself, deciding one's own destiny, escaping the shackles of slavery and all forms of oppression and injustice. Therefore, all his theoretical and practical activities were aimed at seeking freedom and happiness for the proletariat worldwide. With the slogan "Workers of all countries, unite!", Marx and Engels united the suffering people of the world to fight for freedom and happiness, against all forms of oppression, exploitation, and injustice, liberating the class, liberating humanity, and liberating humankind.

According to Karl Marx, private ownership of the means of production is the root cause of all human suffering, leading to a society rife with oppression, exploitation, and injustice. Therefore, they waged a relentless struggle against the bourgeoisie and private property.

Therefore, to overthrow capitalism, bring happiness to humanity, and build a better society free from exploitation, Karl Marx clearly demonstrated the inevitability of the historical mission of the proletariat and the victory of communism worldwide. To lead and guide the revolutionary movement of the world proletariat to ultimate victory, Marx and Engels founded scientific communism and waged an uncompromising struggle against all enemies of the proletariat, against the doctrines of the bourgeoisie and opportunism and revisionism within the workers' movement, and against bourgeois ideological currents aimed at liberating the class, liberating humanity, and liberating mankind.

Marx's idea that happiness is a struggle has not only been proven by his entire life and great work, but its validity has also been tested by the historical practice of humanity as well as the history of Vietnam.

In Vietnam, throughout thousands of years of history, the Vietnamese people have continuously struggled not only against natural disasters for survival and a better life, but also against foreign invaders to protect their borders, national independence, and territorial sovereignty , to escape foreign domination, invasion, and assimilation.

Under the light of Marxism-Leninism, Ho Chi Minh Thought, and the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, with the goal of "nothing is more precious than independence and freedom," we achieved the great August Revolution of 1945, giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam; a glorious Dien Bien Phu victory that shook the world; and the Spring Offensive of 1975 that completely liberated the South, unified the country, and led the entire nation towards socialism.

In the same spirit, the Communist Party of Vietnam has led our people in carrying out the national renewal process; achieving historically significant accomplishments; affirming the nation's foundation, potential, position, and prestige at a new level; and maintaining Vietnam's sovereignty over its borders and islands to this day. This is the result of the continuous struggle of the entire Vietnamese nation for independence, freedom, prosperity, happiness, and a peaceful life for the people.

Entering a new phase, with many intertwined opportunities, difficulties, and challenges, we continue to strive in many fields to bring prosperity, freedom, and happiness to the people. At the 13th National Congress of the Party, our Party reaffirmed that the guiding principle of the entire Party, people, and army is to steadfastly apply and creatively develop Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought to build and firmly defend the socialist Vietnamese Fatherland. In particular, in the fields of ideology, culture, and theory, we must resolutely fight against hostile and erroneous viewpoints and arguments, protect the ideological foundation of the Party; and combat manifestations of cultural dilution and anti-culture that go against national cultural values. The struggle against corruption, waste, ideological and political degradation, moral decay, and lifestyle deviations, as well as "self-evolution" and "self-transformation" within the Party and among each cadre and Party member, is relentless. In his article "Some Theoretical and Practical Issues on Socialism and the Path to Socialism in Vietnam," General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong reaffirmed: "The scientific and thoroughly revolutionary nature of Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought are enduring values that have been and are being pursued and implemented by revolutionaries. They will continue to develop and have vitality in revolutionary practice as well as in the practical development of science."

The 205th anniversary of Karl Marx's birth is an opportunity for each of our cadres and Party members to better understand their role and responsibility in safeguarding national independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, bringing prosperity, freedom, and happiness to the people, successfully achieving the goals and tasks set forth in the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party, and striving to make Vietnam a developed country with a socialist orientation by 2045.
