Those are the shares of musician Phung Chien about his deep feelings for Uncle Ho. That is why in his musical career with hundreds of works, musician Phung Chien always reserves a special place for songs written about President Ho Chi Minh.
Although he is a veteran musician of Lao Cai music, for musician Phung Chien, composing songs about Uncle Ho is always a big challenge, because there have been many famous musicians who have succeeded with their lifetime songs. Musician Phung Chien has written 6 songs about Uncle Ho. Most recently, the song "His words echo forever in the autumns" by musician Phung Chien won the A prize for composing and promoting literary, artistic and journalistic works on the theme "Studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style" in the second phase of 2024.
Still remember that autumn.
Historic autumn welcomes Uncle Ho to visit Lao Cai .
My hometown is as happy as a big festival.
How can I forget that early autumn?
The sky seems clearer, the flowers seem more fragrant...
The lyrics of the song "His words echo forever in the autumns" are like a deep nostalgia, bringing listeners back to an unforgettable moment for the ethnic people of Lao Cai - the historic autumn of 1958, when Uncle Ho visited. Musician Phung Chien shared: "I was very moved when reviewing the documents and images of Uncle Ho during that historic visit, so I always cherished writing a song about this event. But it took me several years to complete the song. In previous songs about Uncle Ho, when writing for vocals, I often chose the form of solo or group singing, with this song it is more special, I wrote it in choir - a form of expression that is larger in scale and more worthy of the great content of the song. Because this is not only a song that reminds me of a historic autumn, but also shows the gratitude and pride of many generations of Lao Cai people towards the beloved leader".
In May, when the whole country respectfully celebrated the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh, musician Kim Xuan Hung also introduced to the public a meaningful song titled “Melody of May”. The work was composed by him based on a friend’s poem, in which the image of “Sen Village’s footsteps wandering around the world” stands out - an image that is both familiar and heroic, expressing Uncle Ho’s great journey from the thatched roof in his hometown of Sen Village to distant lands for the ideal of saving the country and saving the people. Singer Duc Thanh - who performed the song "May Melody" shared: "When performing this work, I had two distinct states of expression. In the first part, the music has a slow tempo, lyrical melody with the peaceful space of Sen Village, associated with Uncle Ho's childhood. In the second part, the song switches to a more heroic atmosphere when recreating Uncle Ho's journey to find a way to save the country, I used more internal strength, in order to convey the spirit of determination, great ideals and aspiration for national liberation of President Ho Chi Minh".
Before writing the song “Melody of May”, musician Kim Xuan Hung composed many songs about Uncle Ho, including: “His words echo in the sacred soul of the mountains and rivers”, “Warm autumn love”, “The land thanks him”, “Warmth of his love” and “Missing Uncle Ho in May”.

Not only the senior musicians, some young musicians of Lao Cai have also tried their hand at writing songs about beloved President Ho Chi Minh. With a fresh perspective, sincere emotions and familiar musical language, young musician Ma Thanh Quan wrote about Uncle Ho for the first time through the song "September Remembering Him". Although he had never met Uncle Ho, with his sincere feelings and deep respect, Ma Thanh Quan portrayed the image of Uncle Ho as simple and close as a family member. The touching lyrics "Is Uncle Ho here - so simple with us!" are the heart of the young artist - who has never met Uncle Ho but feels that Uncle Ho is so close and dear that he cannot be expressed in words. It is Uncle Ho's simplicity that makes many people feel overwhelmed with emotion and pride when thinking about or meeting Uncle Ho.

The image of Uncle Ho in music is not only an endless inspiration, but also a sacred symbol connecting generations of artists. From veteran musicians to today's young generation, each person chooses their own way of expression, but all share a sincere heart, deep gratitude towards the great President Ho Chi Minh. Those songs are not only a profound gratitude, but also contribute to spreading the image of Uncle Ho to today's and future generations.
